I took this course through correspondence. The assignments were fun and challenging. I found him to be an easy grader without ANY interest whatsoever in my writing. I could slap something together and receive an A, without ANY feedback on my multiple(!!) mistakes. Easy A, but if you actually want instruction, look elsewhere.

Pretty interesting, hes basicly a nice teacher. Huge redneck and as long as you know how to write about guns or hunting you will get a good grade. He is a good writer himself but not the best at teaching others how to be the same.

The first day of class, I thought I would hate Dr. Ruffin. It turns out he's great! He grades hard, but fairly and he can make you into a REAl writer, if you follow his advice.

well.. all of the comments here are true. He is so hard in fish English-if you went to public high school you WON'T get higher than a B. But in the later creative writing classes? he is AWESOME. so, avoid early but take later

Do not take him for freshman English. He gives spelling tests that you won't score higher than a 'C' on if you went to public school. He doesn't give more than an 'A-' on any of the essays, which means that the highest grade you can get is a 'B'. AVOID!
