Quite simply one of the best professors Penn State has. Taking his class was, at turns, hilarious, thought-provoking, infuriating, invigorating, and awe-inspiring. Anyone would love this guy -- he's just great at what he does, and obviously has a passion for teaching.

I really enjoyed this class, it's a shame he's transferring schools this year. I really couldn't care less about science fiction, but Paul was so passionate about the subject matter, and knew so much about it, that I found myself attending lecture anyway. He's very animated - jumping, shouting, and gesturing wildly - it's hilarious.

Paul Youngquist is probably one of the best teachers I have ever had the pleasure of having. It is very rare that you can come across a teacher that is passionate about his subject and is able to convey that passion to a class. I am not sure I would reccomend eng 191 to non Sci Fi lovers, but everyone can enjoy this class.

This class isn't easy and it's not for the faint of heart. But if you keep an open mind and listen, Paul will teach you things, very important things. This was the best class I had in college. Thanks Paul.

Favorite Professor, lectures were extremely interesting... I signed up expecting a typical Romantics class, but I learned so much more! Take his classes! Not easy, but you'll learn a lot!

Excellent professor: intelligent, open-minded, knowledgeable. Might not have picked the best TAs, but that rarely affected the quality of instruction. Great survey of Science Fiction literature. I wish he would teach a 400-level course on similar material. Maybe a class focusing on Vonnegut ;)

Easily one of the best teachers I've ever had, EVER. Its in a big lecture hall and you can duck out of class easily, but I didn't miss one, not because I wanted the notes or anything but simply because class was so entertaining. Its a hard course, and I'm REALLY lazy, but I still loved this course. Take it.

PY is very appealing, but there's always room to hate on someone like that. so then, why you should take his classes: he knows his stuff and is a seriously gifted lecturer. he is conscientious; he will give you the canon, the underground canon, the scoop on canon formation. he will raise questions you may never answer but that you'll never forget.

Brilliant, funny, and full of energy--I don't know why anyone *wouldn't* take him. I don't remember the exact course number, but he was teaching an honors lit theory class when I had him, and he always kept things interesting. Not a terribly hard class--just don't expect him to hand you your grade. Honestly, I loved his class.

Quite frankly, I don't remember the course number--it was a lit theory honors course. Paul is a very nice guy, but someone who seems quite confused about PoMo and other aspects of literary theory. If you want to learn about theory, don't study with Paul, study with Jeff Nealon--he's brilliant and should be in a philosophy department.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! I expected this class to be an easy A.....but this guy is so out to lunch, it's unbelievably difficult to do well on the exams. I think everyone I talked to got a D on the first one. The books suck and the lectures are only funny if you're a nerd (like most of the virgin, dungeons-and-dragons players in the class).

paul is a funny guy, but his discussions are way too off the ball. he shoots from the hip too much with his lectures, the class more or less dictates what you learn based off what kids talk about. its a tough class to grasp, he is hilariously funny, but the tests are hard and the books are painstakingly awful if you arent into sci fi.

Even in entry-level courses, Paul teaches with an obvious theoretical undertone. Students who want a conventional or an historical English class should be forewarned. Still, he's a very smart, energetic guy, and anyone considering grad school ought to take a class of his.

Somehow this class turned into a Sci Fi course, which I am not into at all, in fact, I hate it. However, Paul is an absolutely awesome guy. He's funny and interesting, and I don't know what it is, but there's something kinda sexy about him...he's got like a funky older guy thing going. But he's super cool, and he makes me want to go to class...

I hate this class, but I love this guy. He's very funny and super hot- he's the only reason to go to class. The books are painfully bad and the tests are not fun either, but the class is not very hard so it's worth taking just to have Paul as a teacher.
