Dr Bernal is the best professor at the school. All the negative comments on this page are from students who can't understand intro level chemistry and blame it on the professor. If you're interested in science and have the opportunity to take Bernal, do it.

Dr. Bernal is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about chemistry. His tests are quite challenging and will require that you study a lot beforehand. As others have stated, a close reading of the texts is a requisite for success in his classes, but you will learn a lot. He is also quite approachable... and funny.

Terrible professor, humiliates you in class if you give a wrong answer in class; he is also in his own land when he gives lectures. Tests are impossible unless you study at least 15+ hours for his tests, combine that with lab time and other classes, just not possible. Any other professor than this guy

Easily the worst professor in the entire college. He will take 3 classes to teach one concept and there are about 5-6 concepts that must be learned for the week. Take anyone other than this person

He can be difficult to understand sometimes and, yes, he seems intimidating, but if you are truly struggling in the class, he is more than willing to help. Very funny as well. Do not hesitate to ask questions, he really goes above and beyond to help you improve your grade if you're willing to listen! Great prof for an almost impossible class/subj

Interesting lectures, good explanations. Tests and lab reports are challenging. Flexibility with due dates (small class) was extremely useful. As long as you did the work and didn't make it harder for him, he didn't care when he received it.

He really has an awesome sense of humor. I highly implore you to ask questions and actually fully read the textbook to succeed in the class. Also, even though it feels like he doesn't take attendance, he does.

Great professor! I agree he is intimidating, but do not be afraid to ask for individual help after class. He has a good sense of humor and is a good guy. I did very well in the course because I studied very hard and DID ALL THE READING. I also asked questions and did lots of practice problems. Be sure to stay on top of your work for this class

He's an awesome guy. I only had a problem understanding him when I did not read the book before the lecture. Otherwise, you might have trouble understanding him. But he is one of the most outstanding professors in the department.

He's a funny guy and you can tell he is extremely knowledgeable in the topic but his explanations are not always exactly clear. If you ask questions he'll clarify for you without much of a problem. Difficulty is people are intimidated and don't want to ask questions making it hard for clarity. My advice: ask questions and skim through the chapters.

Goofy ass teacher. he LOVES the meterstick. my personal favorite is the golf swing, but also look out. he might shoot you with it. He knows his chemistry but its hard to understand what he is saying sometimes. kind of a mumbler. He may seem intimidating, but he is VERY willing to talk with you or just chill with. hes also fun to bowl with

Not his fault that the Honors program has no clue what its doing. Bernal's awesomely understanding and helpful outside of class. Very objective moderator, makes you question the source of your own value systems. Puts his faith into action, although he's one of the most un-preachy Profs at this college.
