Comment:
Dr. Corkum is clearly respected in the field and knows her stuff. She's kind, funny and smart during lecture and almost always open to questions during class. The issue arises in the LONG slide shows (60-100) and dry textbook chapters. The quizzes are an easy way to get a good grade, and lots of feedback is given for the case study. Beware SAQs.

Tough grader. Hard to please. ENDLESS slides with too much text. Gets defensive when challenged on a grade or when you make suggestions. Puts on a good show about being apprachable and friendly in class but watch out if you have to deal with this prof one-on-one. Avoid.

Relatively easy to get through the course even if you don't come to class (however, she does give in-class participation marks). Her slides are taken word for word from the textbook, and her slideshows are really long, so she tends to rush through lectures. Not very receptive to constructive criticism, even though she asks for it in class.

I think she is a cool professor. A lot of people on here found her class to be hard but I found if the readings were done and I actually studied it was easy. Either you know the info or you don't. There are a lot of different ways to be graded which may have thrown people off but this is not a course to take if you do not want to learn anything.

Dr. Corkum is a great prof! Even if she hasn't taught that course in 7 years in lecture (not not taught like said above) I didn't find it showed at all. She really cares about her students and does a lot for them. This course is challenging for a lot because it is about child psychopathology and not peoples idea of that but it is so worth taking!

Okay, so she hasn't taught in 7 years. And honestly, it shows. She's a very nice person, very sweet. However, her lectures so so boring. 1.5 hours and she never comes up for air. Her lectures were about 70 slides each and she would rush to finish one per class. By the time midterms roll around, studying all of those slides is hell.

Ok Prof, not terribly interesting or boring. Class was extremely easy, don't bother reading anything in the book besides the diagnostic criteria. Class notes aren't very useful except for the weekly quizzes. Nice prof, but didn't seem very interested in the students, all questions and assignments were marked/answered by the TA

She was an okay professor, but seems more interested in her research and practice than teaching. She had a lot of guest speakers in, and you have to read the book to do well.

Really good professor. Her classes are very interesting, especially the guest speakers. I would 100% recommend this class to anyone, she is very fair and very nice. Even made the class laugh once in a while, for a psych class this is one of the better ones.

Good professor, rather fair. Worked well within the confines of the amazingly painful to read book. *groan* Pretty easy class, Penny was very good at explanations of the subject.

Interesting class, she was pretty good. Final was surprisingly tough considering the difficulty of the quizzes and midterm (or lack thereof).

Easiest course I've ever taken and she is a very good prof who made it interesting all the way through. Chapter quizzes are simple, a 15 question report is ok and her midter was a joke. However, do not be too confident going into the final because it was HARD. Don't slack off or you'll regret it. Overall, an awesome course with and awesome prof.

She is well organized and knows her stuff. The guest speakers really help to highlight what she is describing. More profs should be like her.

It is rare to find a teacher that teaches what she lives for. She truely loves to talk about children. She is friendly, approachable, and funny. The exams and quizzes are easy if you study the multiple choice questions on the student online learning center.
