Prof Gjerde is a genuine nice guy who is very passionate in personality psychology. However, the combination of his accent and dry lectures, very hard to stay focused and motivated to learn. Tests, are pretty much his lectures and reading material.

Per is a wonderful person who really does care about his students and is very knowledgeable. The class was not difficult, and you could tell Per enjoyed being there. His accent is thick and he is hard of hearing, but he is able to make fun of himself and his character is very charming. Love Per.

Per is such a genuinely caring person, truly cares about the achievement of his students. Fair grader, and exams. Read book in addition to using powerpoint as a guide. Exams are fair and clear. Gives out generous amount of extra credit. Amazing professor

This was a pretty interesting class, but be warned his lectures are painfully boring. If you read the book, do all the extra credit, go to the guest professor's lectures, and know the study guide inside and out, it's an easy A

Per is an okay lecturer. His accent is thick, but it didn't bother me. Mostly the problem with lectures was they were boring. 90% of it was straight out of the book. I skipped a lot of lectures (except for films and guest lectures) and went over the book and slides online. Still got an A. He gives out some extra credit assignments, so that helps.

You can't understand him through his thick accent. He makes you read a book but his tests are based on what HE believes. Completely ridiculous. Retook the class with someone else and got a B.

I Love Per, he is the most adorable man. His tests were a bit harder then I expected, and he may not be the most exciting professor but I liked him. Plus section was optional! Don't take notes in Class, just listen, do the reading, and go over study guides and you should be fine.

Per is very intelligent. It's always nice to take a class a psych class taught by a famous psychologist. His Power point slides were useful and clear, he has a fairly strong accent but you can get around it if you chose to. Study guides for midterms which you go over in section for answers. Learn whats on the study guide and you'll ace every exam.

Gjerde is a nice teacher, super smart and shows a genuine interest in students' education. As for his teaching format, it was less than desirable. He gave ZERO feedback on any assignments. Nothing. Not even on a major group project you do. You have no way of knowing whether you've done great or average until you get your final grade.

My favorite psychologist at UCSC, he may not be everyone's choice, but he certainly has an amazing breadth of experience and an intense love for the study of developmental psychology. Per is one of my heroes.

Very easy class, Gjerde is pretty difficult to understand, lectures were often dry and boring, despite this the class is pretty interesting(topics) and is an easy A as long as you memorize whatever is in the text.

Great professor! He really cares about his students and wants them to learn. He will do all he can to help you. He is sometimes very hard to understand because of is accent. The test were straightforward and he even gives you a very detailed study guide of exactly what is on the test. Sweetest old man you meet and a wonderful professor to.

Per is a great professor. He is interesting and funny and I don't think he is difficult to understand. I like that the guest speakers have ranged from professional psychologists to people recovering from mental illnesses. It is true that the exams are pretty easy - but only if you read the book and come to lecture.

HIS ACCENT MAKES IT HARD TO UNDERSTAND. READ THE BOOK AND YOU'LL KNOW WHAT HE'S TALKING ABOUT. SOMETIMES HE DOESNT LECTURE OF THE BOOK, LIKE HE ALWAYS DOES. HE HAS ALOT OF GUEST SPEAKERS THAT FOCUS ON ONE DISORDER SO THEN, YOU HAVE TO READ THE BOOK FOR THE REST OF THE DISORDERS . TEST ARE VERY VERY VERY EASY. STUDY THE BOOK.

Poor Per. I feel so bad that everyone rags on him. It's not that he's mean, stupid, or unfair, he's just hard to understand. But frankly, if you read the book, you don't really need to understand him, since the tests are just multiple choice. Honestly, he's a nice guy, and really knows his stuff, too.

He was okay but is a little out there, lecture is important no matter what others say about the need to attend this class. He is a nice and friendly man. Read your textbook thouroughly as if you were looking to ace the sats, gre or something and you will at least get a B and possibly an A, depending on your skills. This class has no assignments.
