I had Doc back in the 80's and loved him. He was my advisor too! The only reason he's so energetic is to keep his students awake, he says he's not a morning person. Took a trip to Jamaica with 20 students and we all hiked to the top of Blue Mountain for the sunrise. Would recommend to people willing to show up for class. Super nice guy and fair.

he's not bad but you need to STUDY. i NEVER read the book, all the stuff came from the notes. You need to take good notes...go to the study sessions too, they help!

He is a very good lecturer and is very interesting. Hard, yet not impossible. Overall he is good...but he can be a jerk. He was ripping into these two people he thought were sleeping in class this one time, embarrassing the students in front of the whole class, and that seemed offensive.

he covers way to much info and the questions on the test come from nowhere. he's very into the subject and jumps around the room all the time. its hard but if u study a lot you can end up with a pretty good grade.

I don't know why sho many people have a problem with him. I thought he was a great professor. He lets you retake quizes. 95% of the questions on a test come from lecture, so just make shure you go and you will be fine. Definatly not a boring professor.

a year & a ruined 4.0 later i finally figured out what's wrong with him (other than being offensive and annoying). he just should NOT be teaching an intro class. he tries to pack way too much into the semester (even pushing tests back so he can cover more info). the only good thing he did was make the final optional so i wouldn't kill my sad B grad

Dougherty’s only fault is that his class is taken by a lot of whiny freshman who still think they are in high school and are afraid to put fourth any effort to learn something. Theses are the same students you see on the Tonight show who can’t find Canada on a map. If you are content with your ignorance do not take him.

I hope the department looks at these ratings and takes them into consideration. This is the worst teacher I ever had. I still remember and hate him from years ago. Needs to understand that most peple have no background in this course. Doc, here's a hint. Get a better text and TEACH! Remember that we are not all taking this class by choice. :(

If you have never had geography before, i advise you not to take this course. He teaches it as though we are all geography majors and speeds through the material. No amount of studying will help you learn the material. He will give you help if you need it though. Lets you retake place name twice. But it is hard. :(

Mr. Dougherty is so out there. His class is the hardest there is... I'm telling everyone now do not take him as a teacher, unless you would like to fail.. Everyone is my class out of 60 were failing. Mostly everyone dropped it.. If you dont believe me take his course and you will see... DONT TAKE HIM!!

He is a very nice man but dont let it fool you. His test are crazy. You have to start studying for the place name quiz as soon as you enter the class. He acts as if we all are geography majors. I am warning you do not take his class. His a** should be banned from teaching.

Dr. Dougherty is a nice guy, i'll give him that. He fails to realize that the material he quickly "goes over" is something we've never seen before. No matter how hard you study, his tests are still impossible. Place name will drive you insane. He needs to realize that we aren't all geography majors and we really arent interested in where Java is.

hes a really entergetic guy, it kept me awake at 8am every MWF.... His tests are easy if you study- GO TO HIS STUDY SESSIONS! THEY HELP ALOT!!!! He likes to schedule quizzes and tests on fridays so peopel will show up. He's a nice guy fo the most part.

115 questions in a 50 minute class who the hell is he kiddin? Won't give xtra time if u need it. At the end of 1 class I still had 30 questions to go and I asked for more time and he said "No I guess u need to work faster." FU! Friendly but don't let it fool u! Class for beginners is hard as hell.

I did not like his teaching at all. He taught as if we were all Geography majors that knew what we were doing and we were all lost. I wound up dropping the class b/c it was too stressful to understand something I'm not even majoring in.

Don't let his upbeat, energetic personality trick you. This is a stressful class. He covers a TON of information and expects you to retain all of it. The place name quiz is insane, his tests are really long and difficult unless you study all week and go to rev. sessions. i got 83 & was 6th highest.

Dougherty is funny and enthusiastic. The class is sometimes difficult because the lecture doesn't go along with the book. I learned a lot, and Doc is always willing and able to help you if you are confused. He lets you retake "places" quiz many times. I liked the class, but you have to study hard.
