One of the greatest professors I've ever had. Extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. Lectures are absolutely riveting. Although he's retired from Drew, he teaches history courses at a local library and consistently sells out 100 seats within a couple of days.

Prof. Leavell is as passionate as he is knowledgeable on the subject matters he teaches. He encourages you to work hard in order to be successful in his course, and he is there for you throughout the term. I can't recommend him highly enough.

If you want to see one of the wonders of the world, take a class with Prof Leavell. The man will not refer to any notes or reference point once throughout the semester when he leads class. Walks in with nothing but the role. Great, great guy. Incredible lectures. Everything a professor should be. Just know your details for those exams.

Having taken most courses Dr. Leavell offers in my time at Drew...I can say he's the best! I highly recommend taking any of his classes -- be prepared to work hard, and you'll have an absolutely fantastic learning experience!

His lectures were never boring, always really interesting with lots of hopping around to keep you on your toes. If you take good notes, then you can read them later and see why he did it this way, and if not, then you're screwed. He's so little and cute, I wanted him to be my grandfather! He's a bit unclear with assignments to allow for creativity.

Just as everyone else said, knows his stuff, and is very nice to his students, and understands about workloads. Tests are very specific on the IDs, but not so much on the essays. In class, is very interesting, if the umms and ahhs do not confuse you that much. Would reccomend though for a class.

I took this class for 2 weeks before dropping it (I was taking too many credits and needed to drop SOMETHING) Leavell seemed like a sweet guy, VERY knowledgable, but he said "um" as about every other word - it drove me crazy! When I needed to choose what class to drop, this led me to my decision.

Let's get 1 thing clear: Leavell knows his stuff inside & out. Lectures are very interesting and oftentimes hilarious. He's just a great, very nice guy. His wit makes the class worth it alone. Tons of reading. Exams are VERY specific and detail-oriented & he's the toughest grader I've had at Drew.
