Comment:
I had two courses with Dr. Appelbaum, ED502 and ED596. I enjoyed all those "complicated conversations" with him (One common definition of curriculum studies is literally "a complicated conversation"). He was always inspiring, considerate, and ready to help. He is eclectic and artistic. I learned a lot from him. Excellent professor!

Dr. Appelbaum is passionate about Math! He gives great feedback. If you work hard and Arent on your phone in class ..(so rude that people actually Did that in a grad class) you will do great and learn a lot!

Guy has a good heart and is kind but is not meant to teach. Tons of time wasted in class. Not valuable information. Very unclear on assignments (very unspecific instructions from professor, who is looking for very specific things in paper). SO SO SO SO SO BORING.

Assignments are completely pointless. He talked the whole class period multiple times to himself with all of the students basically staring into space. His "homework" is pointless and a waste of time. RUUUNNNN

Worst class ever, hands down. Do not know what the point of the class was. Worst teacher I have ever experienced. Nice guy, but DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH HIM

Comment:
Appelbaum is very judgmental and is very quick to suggest things in a condescending manner. Most of our class discussion consists of him shoving his ideas in our faces, and makes our opinions feel wrong/unimportant. If we state an idea or opinion, he is very quick to refute it. I would rather drop out of school than take another class with him.

Very condescending. Talks down to his students and makes them feel as though their opinion is wrong and doesn't matter. Is very unorganized and not very helpful. Rambles and doesn't answer questions directly. If you ask a question you'll get a 20 minute lecture on a completely different topic. I DO NOT RECOMMEND HIM.

I am surprised by the positive reviews, I almost think they were written by him to bring his score up. He never gives you any clear expectations for the class, we waste the entire class time talking about existential nonsense and he's mean as anything. Worst advisor I ever had. Was no help whatsoever.

Everything and Nothing - it's a lot more than nothing and a little less than everything. Don't take this class unless you want something truly different! Prof's nice, helps you learn hard stuff, and grades seem easy as long as you take risks, which is scary but pays off in the end.

He's not a nice person. Very condescending. Very full of himself. I'm still trying to figure out how he has a job. Basically he is just way too condescending towards students, which makes it seem like he doesn't want them to do well. He is NOT helpful and when I tried to ask him nicely about my grade; he blew me off. I think he's awful.

Strange, because I had him for two classes. Loved the first class, which prompted me to take his math class. The math class was not so good, though. The class dynamic certainly can shape overall feel for the material, however.

Math's everything and everywhere to this guy. Friendly, funny, challenges you, weird but after a while he gets you thinking and then you're not afriad to teach math anymore.

Mind-blowing. Learned more than in the rest of my classes combined. Worth the effort. Profs. very clear on what you need to do--and if you do it, you'll do well and get a lot out of it.

The rumors are true, this class is a killer. But wow! It's the most important experience you'll ever get at Arcadia. The co-teachers don't stop pushing you to reach your potential, which is exhausting, but it pays off in the end.
