His quizzes are nearly impossible. I studied very hard and got horrible grades on them. The textbook is useless. He grades you on how well you remember experiments that he goes really fast on in class you think it is not a big deal.. I strongly recommend you avoid his class and take MCB 163/164 instead. Way better curves and guaranteed pass.

One on the best professors I've had at Davis. his lecture notes are clear as day. He does get off topic sometimes but its usually quite amusing. The "syllabus"is our textbook and is full of extra reading and outlines for the different topics in class. Quizzes and tests were graded very fair. I highly recommend this professor!

He's a nice enough guy, but the mechanics of his course are a nightmare. The course text ("syllabus") is near worthless, and good luck following what he's trying to say even with the podcasts. Lab is a lot of work with little payoff since it's graded separately P/NP. Don't take this course unless it's absolutely required.

Absolutely terrible. "Textbook" (what he calls the class syllabus) is unclear, and he wastes time in class teaching facts that are never tested on. PAY ATTENTION TO THE EXPERIMENTS! THAT IS ALL HE EVER TESTS ON!

Very sweet man, helpful in office hours - won't give you answers but challenges students. His lecturing style is pretty clear but massive amounts of information. Enjoyed the class!

MCB 150 is all about experiments and know it all front and back. Some what disorganized lecture and he talks super fast so can't get all the important stuff out of his lecture. but don't listen to any facts because he will not test you on the facts but he will on experiments..

He was very methodical and organized- great for such difficult material. His quizzes forced you to go over your notes from the first day on. I learned the material so well that I aced my embryo questions two years later in medical school.

I really enjoyed Dr. Armstrong's class. There's a lot of material to cover, but I thought it was extremely well-presented in a clear manner. He's easy to contact during office hours and was willing to help me work through difficult areas.
