Comment:
Koehn is one of the best professors in the Poli Sci department at UM. If you ACTUALLY do the readings and come to class prepared, you will get a lot form the discussions. Overall his classes aren't hard but they do require doing like 60% of the readings. I really appreciated his perspectives and he has a wealth of REAL world experience.

If you need 2.5 hours a week to catch up on your email and news, this is the class to take. If you are looking to develop a general understanding on global public health issues, I believe Montana State University offers some very helpful classes. Koehn has spent most of the class this semester somewhere else-literally he puts on a movie and leaves.

Just awful.. Not clear at all about expectations on assignments and class time is a complete waste of time. Also let's his opinions show in class. Worst professor in an already mediocre political science department.

Most of what has been said before is founded. However, his classes have been some of the most influential in my college career. He prepares us for the uncertainty of real life. Although initially lacking in clarity, if you ever visit him in office hours he can explain better. His experience in the field is stunning.

Beyond the worst. Not only has he failed to teach at all in the class (providing a reading list is not the same), but in the little feedback provided so far, he has managed to belittle and insult hard work from failing to provide clear instructions or background for the assignment! Useless and a liability for anyone seeking education in development

Comment:
The syllabus is packed with numerous readings- many of which are outdated or inapplicable. The class is very rushed all in all and the assignments are very vague. This class could have been better if he was willing to cut out some material, and actually teach instead of leaving it all to his facilitator discussions.

Not only the worst professor I have ever had, but a pompous ass as well. Lectures consisted of Koehn reading directly from his powerpoint slides. Required reading consisted largely of Koehn's "scholarly" works. NOT the respected authority he firmly believes himself to be. Loved citing himself. His sloth did, however, make for easy grading.

Rushes lectures, contradicts textbook, tests are poorly written, lectures from powerpoint and doesn't elaborate much. Would have preferred a more coherent presentation of the material.

Currently taking psc120 and he's just ruining an otherwise interesting topic. Tests are poorly written, lectures are read off powerpoint and contradict information in textbook. He races through the material with little clarity or time for good notes. Course seems thrown together with tons of material but little real thought for what's important.

Seems like a nice guy, but the class is terrible. Completely uninterested in teaching & kinda random system about grading. All he does is talk about his papers & forces you to read them. it's a crazy waste of time & I stopped taking notes in his class a long time ago.

He ruined my favorite topic for me using convoluted language and the worst reading sources imaginable for a beginning political science class.

oh my god. I have been to two colleges over a four year span and this guy was the WORST prof I ever had. He forgets what his lecture is about, and reads his own powerpoint slides. Plus, his TA's do all the work and he is totally unhelpfull, got an A. but what a waste.
