You definitely have to work hard to succeed in any of Schwartz's classes. I hated him when I first had him but now I think he is one of the best professors at EC. He truly cares about his students and expects a lot from them. He may be a little old fashioned in his grading (and sucks and technology) but he is intelligent and passionate.

Completely unclear when it comes to assignments, is all over the place in class and when it comes to work. Never gotten a grade over an 80 on anything. Rambles a ton in class and need to do all readings or you will be screwed. Originally an English professor so core students are done for. Can be rude and truly does not like when you ask questions

He was very unclear and graded incredibly harshly. He is enthusiastic about what he teaches but does not give fair grades. He also uses outdated information in references. He mentions sex too often. He is very vague in his assignments and he is ambiguous when grading. Also, his handwriting is completely illegible.

One of the most challenging professors I have had. A tough grader and a pleasure to learn from. Schwartz is fantastic if you are willing to rise to meet his high expectations and check your ego at the door.

He knows his stuff for the most part but can be a little rude and is also too set in his ways. His class is interesting and funny, but he can't handle anyone disagreeing with him.

A rampant egotist, with a healthy helping of old-fashioned misogyny...unclear with his expectations and gets angry when students fail to meet them. Inserts sex into everything and isn't nearly as smart as he thinks he is.

He's very helpful too and friendly, and grades very fairly considering the quality of the work. You can't bs in his class.

Dr. Schwartz is amazing and by far one of my favorite teachers at EC. He's great and always gives you great examples. Always there to go to for help. Quizzes are random but if you read you'll do fine. He makes you think but in a good way....not in a crazy im confused way! Take his class if you have the chance!!!!

One of my favorite educators. You definately need to work to get a good grade (but isn't that what learning is about)? Not only did he make class interesting with his humor and wit, he encouraged class participation. Not only was he a great educator, but a good man. He spoke with students on campus and I got to see him job around Elmira. Yumm.

Best professor I've ever had. Not surprised to hear he still teaches at Elmira and I hope he remains a fixture. Crazy smart, wicked funny, and despite all complaining, you will realize that sex IS everywhere in literature.

Be prepared to do your reading, because he actually engages the class and you're expected to know your stuff. His quizzes are hard to ace, but they're completely fair (he gives a couple broad questions based on the reading and you write until he collects them). Every two weeks, you get an essay test on whatever play you just finished.

Schwartz is the classic example of those who can not do, teach. For example, I never got more than a B+ in terms of grades from him. I left Elmira thinking I really was not much of a writer. Yet from a scholarly standpoint, Peter Schwartz has never published anything. Zip. Zero. And even though he has real problems writing, he beat the**** out of

So I didn't like Schwart either till I finally got over myself, sat down with him, and had him go over, step by step, what he wanted in a paper. After that my grades went up and I enjoyed the class a lot more. He's more then willing to help if you ask and my essays have gotten better overall. I still have the damn piece of paper that I wrote the instructions on cause I use them for other classes. Take his class, he's a good teacher and his references to sex are a riot. Def make Shakespeare more interesting

He is a very good teacher and knows what he is talking about. He expects people to do the reading, and some have a problem with this. His grading technique is a bit harsh, but he also gives legitimate comments on why he chose a grade. Great professor!

Holy crap, he's such a hard grader. I had to work my ass off just to get B's! He's not clear about what he wants in his essays and takes off major points for little things. Only take his classes if you must, and if you do your GPA will drop.

My roommate and I would fill up the margins of our papers with slash marks for the amount of times he talked about sex, but other than that he was funny and kept me awake at 8am. Easy work but grades tough.

I sat in his American Indian Literature class(1.5 hrs, twice a week) and literally ran out of hash markers space for every time he said the slurred word "alright" that sounded like "eyeite".I did this in everyone of his lectures for self- amusement.
