I had Dr. Spears in the early 70's. He was tough, yes, but he understood that you had to put in the time to really learn and understand the subject. One of his favorite sayings was "I want meat in your test answers, not a bunch of gravy." In other words, he wanted to know you knew the material and weren't just trying to bull your way through!

The worst teacher I had at Berea. I took his class during the summer. All he did was told old man / good oh boy stories. Apparently he was having a senior life crisis. He would not answer questions or help in any way.

Due to lack of scheduling, I got stuck in his GST Western Tradition class. Satan himself couldn't take on this man! Be prepared and do the reading!!! Don't miss a single word or he will catch you on it. Pay attention in class. He graded on a curve, so watch out!

Most demanding professor I have ever had...even in Grad School, but he was great!! After he had his heartattack...I came to him and told him that I had heard that kicked he had the bucket, but I knew that wasn't true because you can't kill the devil :-)! He licked his finger, drew a 1 in the air and said "one point"!!

I loved taking his class. We both have a dry sence of humor and he was challenging in a good way. He was hard for a reason, and I am a better person for taking his class. I still tell stories from that class.

One of the toughest professors I had in college. Thanks. Every student should take at least one class with Dr. Spears, you'll leave the call better prepared for the "real world" then you would have ever thought possible.

The hardest class I had at Berea. Taught me to toughen up and prepared me for the real world. I would recommend him to everyone, just be prepared to work hard and be stressed out. One of the best teachers for preparing you for real world situations.

Good ole Uncle Phil was my advisor, as well as teacher for 5 classes. He was hard as all get out, but he respected you. I learned more from his classes than anyone else. Donald Trump has nothing on Spears!
