His accent is very thick to understand, and you really need to pay attention to what he is saying. He rambles on and on about our Excel projects, and you have to keep asking him over and over again how to explain it again. 6 projects, 2 tests and 12 quizzes, but he drops the lowest 2 quizzes, and grades on a curve. Study all quizzes for exam!

Took this class over the summer and was very hard. I feel if it was a different teacher it might not have been so hard, but since you can not hear this teacher when he speaks it is very difficult to learn. Unless you know stuff about computer systems would not take this teacher at all.

Very difficult to understand. Due dates do get extended a fair amount, so you really can't have an excuse for late work. Big project that's due at the end of the semester; don't fall behind in this project. His exams are also fairly tough, he doesn't say he grades on a curve, but it felt like he did. Textbook wasn't needed.

Challenging class and you need to be really good at excel. Very nice professor and always willing to help. Cares about his students a lot, but can be difficult to understand with accent. Useful course and applicable.

What I don't understand is why this class is needed for graduation it is irrelevant unless you are a CIS major! Very thick accent Hard to understand Helps if you ask This class requires you to be a pro at excel He lectures half of the class/ then gives you random excel project. weekly quiz Tests are hard! Suggest to avoid, if u can't GOOD LUCK!!!!

Out of Deng and Hanson for 3700, Deng is the easier option, while Hanson actually teaches. Deng rambles about everything with his thick accent and will offer little to no help at all if you are struggling. He's disorganizes. His quizzes, tests and labs are hard.

Labs and hwk are pretty challenging, but awesome professor! Ask for help, he'll do his best. His technique may be different, but if you analyse his whole lecture and lab, he's actually teaching you how to think outside of the box!! Not only that, I figured that in the real world out there, it's as challenging as his classes too. GREAT PROFESSOR!!!

Its very hard to understand him. The accent makes it very difficult to learn from him. He's a good guy but a terrible teacher. He doesn't teach us the "how". You have to be very proficient in accounting and finance. Be ready to learn on your own, teach yourself or get a tutor. If you can avoid him, trust me,save yourself; save your sanity.

As one of about 15 students to attend every lecture(with about 50 enrolled) and a straight A student, I found this class very challenging and pointless. Labs and exams were difficult. No guidance just a nice professor who curved a lot. Stan needs to better prepare students for this course. Warn if we need to be expert excel users. Some of us care.

He's such a kind professor, even though the material was hard for me. Curves a lot, and I went to office hours to ask questions and it helped a lot. MUCH better professor overall than other options. He is always willing to help. you do need a strong excel background however.

He makes sure to let everyone know that he expects to be addressed properly as Dr. in all written communications with him. Personally I expect to be taught by an instructor that speaks intelligible English.

Labs are challenging, which is fine. The problem is that with his poor spoken English, he can't give lectures/lab talks that adequately prepare you for the projects. He'll answer questions to the best of his ability, but you have to probe. Being a high-intermediate or advanced excel user, or having 1 in your group helps.

Don't over think his lab instructions. Main thing is to focus on implementing the formulas he's discussed in lab and lecture. He responds well to emails and a little extra time and effort in the class goes a long way!

Labs are confusing, and he's willing to help IF you word your questions correctly. I've been able to apply his Excel teachings to other classes, but his requirements for lab are so ADVANCED everyone struggled and had due dates pushed back weeks at a time...!

BRUTAL!!! Deng is difficult regardless of whether or not you attend class and take perfect notes. His lectures are pointless. He teaches until two minutes AFTER class ended, then hands out quizzes based on material covered in class that day. He is better than the other options though. He is willing to help 100%, but he's very picky about questions.

Wow, I can't believe I survived the semester. Professor Deng is a great professor, but hard to understand...I still cannot understand why the department put this particular class on the list in order to receive an undergraduate degree. The labs make no sense, and the material itself has NOTHING to do with an accounting/finance major.pointless class!
