Says "you understand" a minimum of 50 times per class (ave was 72). It's not in a checking in way, it's like his version of "um". Entertaining lecturer though

I really enjoyed Professor Garraghty's class He's very fair with his grading; if you do the work you'll do great. Most of the grades are test, so there's almost no homework or assignments. Really awesome and smart guy, would take more classes with him.

Preston is a very great lecturer. He has a unique sense of combining elevated speech with hilarious colloquial phrases. He does make the class very difficult, but I attended every lecture and made sure I knew the answers to all the study questions he has online for his exams. The book is unnecessary, just take VERY detailed notes in class.

Garraghty's lectures do not go by a book so if you miss class you are dooming yourself. I find his lectures interesting, but he tends to go off on tangents sometimes for thirty minutes at a time and it's hard to follow at times. Definitely one of the hardest P155 teachers and offers no extra credit like other teachers.

Great teacher, will explain anything burn has no respect for people who don't show up or try (as it should be). Yes you have to go to lectures. I had him for a two hour lecture every day over the summer and he somehow still engaged the class even though we didn't want to be there. Go to class, study, and don't be a priveledged idiot.

By far the WORST professor I have ever had. I am a 3.5 GPA student and have never struggled to pass. Lectures are very hard to follow, textbook is irrelevant to material, tests have nothing to do with lecture. He is intentionally vague. Look at his previous to grade distributions. He doesn't want students to succeed, this is a weed out course.

Garraghty was really enjoyable to have as a professor. He's funny in a very dry and mature way, occasionally gets off topic, but is generally very knowledgeable about the material. GO TO HIM OUTSIDE OF CLASS - if you make a good impression on him, he will help you in whatever way possible for you to succeed. I really respect and enjoy him.

Prof. Garraghty is interesting because his lectures don't follow the book whatsoever and he tends to go on rants a lot. Having said that, I love him. I skipped class a lot, but I was able to access his notes online and understand most of them (although his notes are much more vague than his lectures). I recommend him 100%

I took this course over the summer. He is a great professor. However, this course set up in a way that is not conducive to learning. There's 4 exams. That's it. In other words it is a weed out course. Be prepared to bank the information. If you can, take Heather Bradshaw's course. You will actually learn neuroscience instead of trying to cram.

I love this man. I learned more in this 8 week lab than I did for the past 3 years. 10/10, would take again. No hw, quizzes, or tests. Just show up and participate in class. This is how learning should be. Small class sizes and good lectures from professors who know their shi+. Ya understand?

Prof. G is better than your average Professor "ya understand." My favorite parts about him are his funny quirks "ya understand," and his passion for teaching "ya understand." I loved a comment below that said that if you don't come to class then why are you even in college. Do the study guides, and pay attention in class... duhh... "ya understand."

Professor Garraghty is an excellent professor. I had him for P155 and he made the material engaging and interesting. Everything on the tests he says during lectures. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he doesn't use the book at all. People complained the class was hard, but that's because they didn't go. It's intro to psych. It's not hard

This class is not going to be as easy as intro psych, so when they tell you that it's the same as PSY-P 101102 at scheduling, it's a lie. You'll focus more on brain science than psychology principles and you need to go to lecture. Tests are detail-oriented and making a study group is a HUGE help. There are only 5 grades and all are tests. Tough.

He rambles a lot which makes note taking difficult, as you are not sure what to write down. Tests are mainly over lectures. If you attempt to pay attention and look over your notes before the test you should do fine even when you don't think you will.

I took this over the summer, and so it was a lot of information in a short amount of time. He made the material very interesting and was clear about what would be on the exams. You do need to go to lectures though.

Absolutely loved him and this class. It has been my favorite thus far at IU. You WILL do poorly if you do not put in the time to study, but if you attend lectures and keep up with the material it is easy. He was extremely willing to help when needed and answered any questions anyone had. He knows what he's talking about is not rude at all!!!!

Do not purchase the book because the professor does not even relate his lectures to the book. Very unhelpful, rude and does not pay attention to grade of students. Blames entire class failing an exam on the class itself. Does not teach well at all, just reads off of his notes. Do not take if have not taken psychology before!

I enjoyed this class and thought he was a great teacher. He has a sense of humor which makes his class more interesting. He explains the concepts well but there is a lot of writing on the tests and it is worth doing the review session with the AI. If you attend and pay attention you should do well
