OK..O-Chem is HARD! There is a A LOT of info thrown at you and you have got to study HARD for the test or else you will fail them. Dr. Yao is brilliant, but also a bit rude...telling us that the test are very simple and thats why he doesn't provide review sheets or old test to look over. Dr. Yao is brillant. He deffinitely knows his chemistry as he has done extremely well in research. But as far as teaching goes, he is NOT too good. It's very hard to understand him since English is NOT his first language. Even though I got A's in both 330, 331 and 332, I am not sure how much I learned and worried about MCAT.

Dr Yao is a very brillant man. He is difficult to understand, but I was a transfer student into Organic 2 (didn't take Org 1 with him) and I got a B in his course while taking a lot of other lab intensive courses. Students need to study for his class, not just memorize the notes. You will fail if you just memorize!

Well this is a difficult course all on it's own but Dr. Yao needs some definite help when it comes to clarity & explanations of chemistry. Good Luck if you have him. He moves VERY fast and doesn't slow down. DO NOT FALL BEHIND!

Org chem is extremely difficult,but what made it even more worse was that I couldnt understand one word that came out of this guys mouth. He talks fast, then says 'you see-its not difficult at all' I have no clue how I passed, I failed all but one test. NO practice exams. His test have nothing to do with his lecture or with the homework.

quite a fast rate of taking notes which i can adjust to, but he never gives us time to really digest or understand it fully in class. First test a challenge. Thank god for no lab(new this year). Just needs to be more people oriented and helpful.

This material is way too hard to be taking this class with this professor. He is very enthusiastic about the material, but his english is poor at best, and he has the tendancy to confuse you even more when you do ask questions. I feel he didn't use enough test/homework type questions as examples durring lecture. If you can take this class somewhere other than NIU, do so.
