If you are good at history but not good at writing, then you should take this course as P/NP. A graduate TA will grade and you are surrounded by upperclassmen who are trying to fulfill credit requirements. It will be hard for your paper to stand out. Nevertheless, prof Klein is an amazing prof! This was my experience and hopefully I help ur GPA.

I took her for HIUS 131 and HIUS 130. She lectures very beautifully; she makes it very easy to understand. Her exams are not too difficult. There is a 5 page paper required as well. Lots of readings too. I would take her again.

Professor Klein is hands down one of the best professors that I have had thus far. She is so passionate about the material she presents and she makes her lectures so lively. I do not think that anyone can top her lecture style. I am really glad that I was able to have her as my professor for this course.

I adore Prof Klein! One of these rare professors that i'm going to geniounly miss. She managed to be so passionate and engaging in every lecture with some really nicely articulated speeches. Was a bit harsh on calling out latecomers/phoners, but that only shows she was caring towards her students. You rock Rach ;)

Prof Klein is very engaging, organized and articulate. Your grade in the class will depend on how difficult your TA grades but the class isn't difficult and is actually quite enjoyable. If you need to take history make sure you get Prof Klein. She's incredible

Easily the best professor I've had here. She's a little harsh at the beginning, but warms up quickly. If you go into office hours you'll see she genuinely cares about you as a person. Extremely well-prepared and a great discussion leader. I can't think of anything negative to say about Klein.

She's very articulate so easy to understand. Assigned reading so I did in the beginning but depending on your TA, you might not be discussing the textbook. The other assigned reading is important though cause you'll be writing essays on them. gave midterm/essay prompts beforehand. :)

I usually hate small seminars but Professor Klein is seriously amazing so it wasn't a bad experience! She's easily one of the best professors I've had at UCSD. Extremely nice, helpful, and not at all condescending when you talk to her. The readings she chose were very interesting and I feel like I learned a lot in her class. TAKE HER for sure!

Definitely one of the best classes EVER. Maybe I felt spoiled because I am a math major. Class is interesting, relevant, mixed up with videos, guest speakers, and frequent input. Tests are straightforward, but with 3 short essay questions, it's hard to finish in 45 minutes, even after readings, attending lecture, and studying. Very approachable!

My favorite professor at UCSD!Seems mean/harsh, but if you actually talk to her, she is very nice. I always paid attention to her classes. Between 130 and 131 devoted whole classes to Alchol, baseball and football, and how department stores corrupted america. I would recomend her class to any one!

Great professor, lectures more about the social issues throughout American history rather than just boring facts so lectures were very interesting. She only gives two 3-page papers which are graded very easily. You don't need to read the textbook to do well, but it's probably helpful if you have time.

I have to say that the class was fairly difficult because you had to read the textbook very in depth in order to do well on the midterm/final (textbook readings = ~15% of the tests). Anyways, her lectures are crystal clear, well organized for note taking, and very interesting. By the end of the course, I didn't even want to miss a lecture.

Very clear and makes you want to come to class. Can be intimidating at times, but is actually a very sweet and helpful lady. A lot of reading, but this was my first university history class so I'm not used to it. On the other hand, the novels required to read were actually enjoyable. Definitely recommend this class/professor!

Great Professor! Best I've had, really clear and interesting. Class was pretty simple if you do the reading and go to lecture. Cares about students and is really friendly. 2 Papers were easy, 3 pages each. Midterm was graded harshly but final was easy. Take this professor!

When I first had lecture, I got to say that it grasped my attention. She's an excellent teacher who is willing to help out her student whenever and whatever. But the grading all depends on the TA... I had a horrible TA.... so I didn't do too hot :[ Oh well, good luck to you guys!

Klein speaks crystal clear and has a good command of the material. unfortunately, some of the material is extremely boring. its really hard to get a solid A in this class (ta's grade hard), so if you're not a social science major, its in your best interest to take it p/np. textbook is useless, but u have to read other assigned books to pass.

excellent professor--one of the best I've ever had. I seriously hated civil war history until I had her class, and I'm extremely thankful that I did. Her lectures captivated me and made me stay awake. MUST attend lectures and MUST take notes. If you write slow, bring a laptop.

I really enjoyed Professor Klein's history course. I really felt like I was learning a great deal while listening to her lectures. She's very clear and precise, making note taking easy(which is good because it's necessary). Essays weren't that hard in my opinion, the TA's grade according to how much you improve each essay.
