Comment:
My fifth history class at Foothill and the least enjoyable. I agree that she seems to put too much of her personal opinions in her modules and apparently grades accordantly. I'm European and never read such ridicule of the philosopher Charles Fourier anywhere before. If you are passionate with the topic, prof. Davison has better teaching skills.

Comment:
This class is much harder than it needs to be. Western history is a tough and dense subject, and Standish puts too much focus on small, forgettable details. Her grading scale needs to be fixed (95% minimum for an A? Come on...), or she needs to add more assignments to balance out the grades. She also gives no feedback or extra credit.

She graded the reasearch paper subjectively and gave no clear explanation as to why she gave a low grade. The tests were timed and had so much information that it was impossible to study for it all. So it was a race to find answers in the book. She was basically just the point police, deducting anytime she could. I learned nothing in this class.

Overall, Women 5 was a pretty easy class. I took it during the Summer 16 quarter where Foothill has six week summer classes. Needless to say, the pace was extremely accelerated. Expect to read at least 80-100 pages per week. Weekly discussions 300 min. 1 Essay and Midterm and Final are timed essays.

She gave a very clear rubric at the beginning of the quarter. Three exams that had 40 multiple choices and 1 essay. As long as you study and get prepared beforehand, they should not be too hard. However, the paper can be hard if you are not familiar with the Chicago University style. Got full scores on everything except the paper. Recommend!

Professor Standish gives you some guidelines as to what she expects, but she really doesn't give you anything specific. Her grading is extremely subjective and you need a 95% or above for an A. Don't take her. Also, quite a few of the links she provides you with critical information do not work so it's frustrating when completing assignments.

DON'T TAKE HER!! She doesn't provide any clear-cut grading criteria and just automatically deducts points in accordance with how she feels like doing so. She also does not provide ANY feedback, so you can't possibly improve. If you care about your GPA, DO NOT take any of her classes! Avoid at all costs!!

She was an incredibly hard grader. She does not give clear response on assignments. For example it will say you either did this or that nothing clear at all.

She is a really hard grader. I have never gotten a C in college before until now, sometimes I felt like she didn't even read my work she just automatically gave most of my work a 75%.

She's really hard to be honest. I would prefer if she taught in-class rather than online. Her lectures could be better if it were more clear and precise. Her standards are so hard, it's impossible to please this instructor.

I DO NOT REC RECOMMEND TAKING HER, at least online. With how simple and minimal the assignments are, she makes it hard for you to get an A--which everyone should get in this class. She doesn't answer your questions about grades directly. Not helpful. Grading scale sucks. Hardly learned anything new at all.

took her online class. the assignments were little but it also created little learning opportunities that didn't comprise of reading. there were only 2 opportunities to learn things as a class or even interact with each other. with such limited assignments, it's hard to get a good grade. & i was too late to withdraw:(

I took her online course & unfortunately it was a disappointment. She wasn't "present" in class & replies weren't prompt. Straightforward work, but grading scale needs reevaluation. Tests comprised of test bank q's from old book = confusion & wrong answers, & w/little wiggle room, very diff. to receive good grades. Dropped to avoid tarnishing 4.0.

Good professor overall. Very quick to grade and one of the most organized online classes I've taken. She gives you a study guide for each exam and picks questions from it to put on the exam. Make sure to read the syllabus carefully and the directions for discussion and the paper or she'll deduct points.

This class is only offered online every Spring. Very straightforward class: 3 discussions, 2 papers, 1 midterm, 1 final. She gives you a review sheet w/ all questions she will ask on the tests, so prepare using that and you'll pass the exams. Grades easily on the discussions & papers as long as you follow directions and show your knowledge! Easy A!

She doesn't give that many assignments so if you do poorly on one, it really hurts your grade. The tests are all essay based so - zero multiple choice. Okay class, probably more interesting GE credit classes available. Teacher is at least quick to grade.

Great teacher! She's very helpful when problems happen on the internet. For example, she reset tests twice for me. Her class is not easy,easy. I'ts medium load of work. We had two choices-- 100 questions or essays. I did better on essays, and she really grades fair; she shows how to improve. Hate history but loved her class! You will too!{*;*}
