He's a smart professor who knows what he is talking about BUT boy oh boy is he ever a TOUGH MARKER! Be careful, Im not just saying this...I always came to class, did every single reading from cover to cover, put in 10+hr a week into essays/assignments & he still only gave me a C. He is one of the hardest markers Ive ever had..& I have a 3.7 A+GPA!

I am sure I unlearnd a lot. None of my workplaces write the way taught and prof comments are not helpful. Hoped to get practice writing but I can't use these as samples- too different from what I've learned at other schools and offices. Textbook also conflicted a few times from other admin courses.

Good course overall: the assignments and material taught was very useful and applicable to the real world. The provided notes were helpful in completing the assignments. Professor Mehta seems friendly, but his feedback on assignments was unclear. Most of the links for the assignments were broken and left unattended

Raj won't spoonfeed you - you'll actually have to critically engage with the material, not be a drone. That said, he's fair, witty and pretentious - but in a good way. He has some funny anecdotes too - they won't teach you a lot about English but they do illustrate the merit of effective communication.

He marks assignments pretty easy. Its not hard to get good grades. However, avoid talking in class! It he catches you, he might cross out your mark. Also don't expect him to teach you anything useful. He might be helpful when asked but in general his lectures are boring and its not helping for a course that needs to write an exit exam to pass.

In the first lecture, Raj says how he thinks english is such an important class for engineers. He then goes on to waste every subsequent hour of class time on random tangents (such as whether dogs can get AIDS). Raj has a book where he records class participation as a basis for your marks - except the outline doesn't mention this. Avoid!

It is almost impossible to understand what he expects of you - after we had a peer-editing class and he read my paper, he commented "Great, this is exactly what I'm looking for." Then I got the paper back and had a B- on it. Mehta is unclear, inconsistent and just plain boring. I learned nothing about writing in his class. Avoid at all costs.

Do not take this guy!!! He refuses to help students and seems totally behind in the times as he won't even accept assignments by email. What's even worse -- instead of actually making the class interesting and worth coming to, he talks crap about students who aren't in class, most likely as a method to indirectly humiliate them into not skipping.

He is the typical english teacher. Friendly, talks lots, knows lots. His class was pretty easy (watch out for the midterm though). I would recommend him if you don't mind staying till 11:22 each class, cause he can never stop talking soon enough.

Raj is very easygoing and laid-back. He knows a lot about literature, particularly the material at hand in class, and lots of stories that are interesting and relate to what we learn. His 0% for papaers handed in after due date seems tough, but fair given his explanation.

This teacher is useless. Consistantly changes outline and is unclear of marking scheme. This teacher certainly needs reevaluating at UVIC. I have never had a teacher this unclear in all my years of school. He is better suited doing research in an stuffy office!
