I took this class last semester, and this was the worst class I took as an English major at this school. He was an easy grader and nice enough. Class is just really boring! I had no idea what was going on the entire time! I didnt learn a single thing. Im scarred for life. I will never take medieval literature again.

I really enjoy Dr. Thiede as a professor. He's a cute, old German guy who has a really good sense of humor. I wasn't sure what to expect in the beginning, but the class turned out to be enjoyable. Midterm was extremely easy, term paper was easy.

I dont want to blame Mr. Thiede for this, but the class was just awful! Its test heavy and test questions were very vague so even if you did study, it was a hit or miss. Tests are worth 60%. You get readiness quizzes that are only worth 10%. The last 30% is on a paper. The info given in class was useless and so is the online book they give. TOUGH.

Grade is dependent upon 2 tests and 1 paper. Test questions are VERY obscure; class had to retake the midterm because we didn't do well. You have to teach yourself because it is hard to learn from him. Attendance not taken, book necessary.

You'll take only 4 exams the whole semester, which will be worth 60% of your final grade. And you'll have one paper to do, which is 30% of your final grade.... don't take this class thinking that it'll be easy. The exams are really hard.

Dr. Thiede is a great professor who really knows his stuff. His style of teaching is definitely not traditional but if you're really interested in what he's teaching you will learn so much. He truly does care about his students and he's always available to help if you ask him. Loved his Medieval Literature class and psycholinguistics.

Dr. Thiede is one of the smartest professors at UNCC. He has an incredibly deep understanding of his topics and presents the complex material in easily digestible ways. I had him for Grammar for Writing and The Mind and Language. I highly recommend both of these classes.

Good speaker and nice to listen to but his lectures are pretty unclear. He can't seem to adjust to the level that he is teaching (I was in a freshman "big prospect" class). Quizzes based off text that he wrote himself... sometimes confusing. Test grades were always posted within 24 hours though so that is a huge plus!

Lacks clarity on his expectations, even when you ask exactly what he wants you to do. Take FOREVER TO GRADE ANYTHING. You have no clue how your are doing until after the class is finsihed.

Seemed like a nice helpful guy. Took Eng. GRAMMAR for ESOL program. To be honest, the material was far and above our heads, which it really shouldn't be, but sorry to admit, most of us didn't really know grammar, tense and mood the way we should, muchless teach it. Class subject TOO Advanced. We needed basic solid grammar subjunctive case etc

This professor is a sweet and kind man but is almost too intelligent for the ungrad student. His English 3132 class is almost a waste of time. He doesnt teach on what is on the tests, its pretty much a teach yourself class. We watch useless videos on content that has nothing to do with class. If you read and study yourself you should be fine.

This man is so sweet and incredibly smart-some of the stuff he says just blows me away. The class was interesting and I definitely would take another with him. His grading scale was flexible to benefit us in the long run.

Thiede is not a good professor at all. He is dull, lazy and uninspiring. It took him 2 MONTHS to return a single paper to our class, even though it was only one of 3 grades we had the entire semester. He was always VERY unclear about instructions, assignments, attendance and so forth. Avoid him: he is boring and petty-not worth your time.

Nice guy, good sense of humor. He loves to make cheesy puns. And, as an added bonus, if you pay attention you can learn some fascinating things about linguistics. He knows what he's talking about and he's interested in it. He only graded us on a few easy, 1 page tests and a short paper. He even let us replace a test grade with extra credit!

I've taken several of Thiede's classes, and he is wonderful, one of my absolute favorites. He is easily accessible and very helpful. His classes are easy IF you go and make an effort to study. If you don't pay attention, you'll miss his sense of humor, too. He is great!!

Dr. Thiede was a good professor, though he seemed bored (not BORING) with stuff this past semester (Fall '05). He seemed like he didn't really want to be there most weeks and this in turn reflects back on the students, making them not really want to be there. Again, he wasn't a BAD professor, just one that seemed a little bored with his job.

Thiede was a good professor, though he seemed quite distracted throughout the entire term; other stuff going on, I suppose. He should have had more than 2-3 grades the entire semester because it's difficult to judge a student's real abilities based on, like I said, 2-3 grades alone. I still learned a lot though and recommend him to other students.
