Comment:
Horrible class. Interesting professor who knows a lot and seems kind, but she rambles a lot and the class is not what I expected at all. Instead of colonial Latin America it was primarily about the early encounters the Spanish had with the Indians instead of the development of colonial society. Had I know that, I would not have taken it.

Comment:
Professor Scott's lectures are rambling and incoherent at best, and her poor lecturing ability only seems worse when compared with the class's co-professor. I came to learn about Constitutional History, but when she lectures, it turns into a Social Justice Warrior's guide to Constitutional History. It's a shame because the other prof is great!

The lectures can seem a little hard to follow or ambiguous when she is trying to balance teaching zeitgeist/hegemonic social structure vs individuality resistance nonconformity etc. Nice smart professor, something about her tone often imparts a sense of condescension If you care about identity politics and stuff you'll like her

You need to go to class because she always gives a daily grade. Grades hard but gives good feedback. Before you turn in an essay, go to the writing center and have them correct it first, then fix those corrections and turn it in. Works wonders.

I thought Professor Scott was awesome. She has sincere interest in her students. She definitely has a "type" of history she likes, very cultural and heavy on identity politics, but it is all incredible stuff. I find her lectures captivating and the way she expresses herself is easy to follow yet eloquent.

Professor Scott is unlike most other history professors I've had. She tells great stories that are supposed to illustrate course themes, though I'm not sure I always got the connection. Very enthusiastic about the topic. She's a little arrogant at times but also brilliant and very funny. Makes her GSIs take the course and grading very seriously.

Rebecca is a wonderful teacher. Latin American History is her thing. She ensures the class is following along with lectures and reading materials by checking in throughout the class hours. If there is any confusion she is ready to address it. Not a particularly hard class, a very interesting one though.

I had an interest in this class topic but I found this class kind of frustrating. I had a hard time taking notes and remembering ideas. However Professor Scott was very enthusiastic. But there was WAY too much reading

Unless you want to become a Latin Americanist don't take this class. Very detailed with no real use of social theory. Concentrated on religion so much, I should be a cleric. You come out of the class with 'nice stories' but no real substance. As someone who considers Latin America as an area of interest, this class has nothing to take away from it.

Thoroughly enjoyed her class for the first several weeks, until it turned out a disappointment. One of the most arrogant professors I've had at UM for both undergrad and grad school. Noticed that she was neither helpful nor respectful to several students in the class, which was a shame. Picked favorites to a sickening degree.

She's fun and engaging but talks about her mentor, the great and fabulous "Charles Gibson" as if he's going to visit us one day and give us presents, kind of like Santa. Its your standard history class but she does a good job of it.
