Very hard to follow in class. Almost too smart for a CHEM 1000 class. It's very hard to know what you need to study for and what you need to know

It's a hard class but he explains things pretty well and will spend extra time on topics in class if people wantneed. He's very passionate about chemistry, even in an 8am class! His class isn't easy, but it's fair and if you put the work in you'll be fine.

Very difficult course material, Prof's lectures also difficult to follow. Very smart man, however, makes the assumption students are able to follow as he talks.

Rene is a great guy, but lectures are insanely hard to follow. Many simple concepts become difficult. Most of my studying done was not related to slides at all. I enjoy, and am good at math, but even in the math section of this class he made it confusing. Most of the course was self taught, I would not recommend going with Rene.

not a great prof, very smart, but makes things more complicated then he needs to, sometimes sends out notes the morning of the class, i found this class really hard to follow and found that he just made everything more confusing than he needed to

the worst professor I have ever had (including high school!). I learned more from my astronomy teacher about chemistry than I did from this bum....goes to show that just because you have a PhD, doesn't mean you can teach. I also hated the way he smiled through the lecture, it was as if he was enjoying hearing himself talk.....avoid this guy!

He is a great prof, Extremely intelligent and really knows what he is doing. Paying attention in class is really, really important. If you don't understand something, ask for help. He really challenges you to do your best but unlike high school, its your responsibility to excel.

Intelligent guy, hence the reason why hes head of the department. Spend the $25 bucks printing off his notes from the webpage, it helps. I dropped his class because it was so difficult. He holds review sessions before tests, but doesnt tell you what you should know for it & expects A LOT. Good Luck.

He seems like a very smart person, but his power point presentations are really hard to follow, especially if you've never seen chemistry done on anything other than a blackboard. I would like to see more examples done in his class in order to increase student knowledge of ALL concepts dealt with.
