Comment:

Had him 20+ years ago(1986) and found him to be an expert on Yeats.He was a difficult grader but I came out of his class a better writer and a more critical reader. Skills I still use to this day.

Comment:

The readings were interesting but I never mastered his quizzes ... they cover every minute detail, so even if you read, you might not do well. He's a tough grader but I still got B's on the papers. Cultural events outside of class ALWAYS conflicted with my work schedule, but he doesn't seem to get that. Be prepared to dedicate time to this one!

Dr. Bizot is a great teacher, like all the other really good profs at unf he is hard. If you do the reading and really pay attention you'll be fine. I like him a lot and I use to go talk to him up in his office.

Dude always gave off the wall quizes. Papers were about poetry and if you did not view poetry his way you were wrong!!!! Extremely difficult grader if your a dude. The reading was good, but be prepared to have it re-read to you in class (For the entire period).

Dr. Bizot is difficult, he requires a great deal of reading and will quiz you on minutiae. All that being said his class is challenging yet quite interesting. Be prepared to work and to actually do the reading he requires, write your papers as he requests and you will do well. He is not as bad as the reviewers make him out to be.

I have never gotten anything lower than a B+ on a paper and I got C's on all 3 papers we had to write in this class. He basically tore them apart. If you don't write in wording that he likes, it's wrong. Also, doesn't really specify exactly what he wants in a paper besides his "pet peeves." He is a pretty nice person though.

I've taken Irish and Victorian Lit from Dr. Bizot. He is a great teacher, his class is hard (I've done worse in both these classes than any of my other 7 at unf) but he is a great teacher. His quizes will kill you if you don't do the reading (and sometimes when you do). He may seem boring unless you get into the class discussion.

Dr. Bizot is a really nice person. His quizzes are only hard if you don't do the reading. He gave opportunities to get extra credit by attending Irish studies events. If don't keep up with readings or don't talk to him when you have trouble you will not do well. He does a lot for UNF and will do a lot for students willing to participate.

Wonderful professor; knowledgeable and well-spoken, he always had time to talk about literature and always had something interesting to say; his grading wasn't at all harsh, but, rather, always appropriate.

Comment:

Class time may seem boring, tedious, and irrelevant. That's because it is. However, Dr. Bizot respects academic work that is concisely written and thoroughly supported with documented work. I did not enjoy sitting in his class, but I earned a high grade because: (1) I paid attention and (2) I substantiated a-n-d attacked my thesis in each paper.

One word: POMPOUS! This man LOVES to hear the sound of his own voice, does not make any effort to create lively classroom discussion and has the mental clarity of an Alzheimer's patient. I strongly suggest you avoid his classes at all costs. He was the low point of my educational career at UNF!

I took Bizot for Irish Lit and regretted every second. He only wanted his thoughts parroted for papers, while being enthusiastic about the material, he was NOT a close reader of it. He is also a very poor organizer and a real space case.

I took Dr. Bizot for a James Joyce class. We read three books (including Ulysses) in six weeks! He said that he encouraged taking chances with our paper topics; however, this was not the case. He was only happy when we mimed his thoughts on the subject matter. He knew his material, but did not teach

If you have difficulty in understanding poetry, Bizot is great - when he reads, you really get it. Not my favorite subject matter, but I miss hearing him read poems out loud!
