Downing can easily put you to sleep, he tends to wander off on his environmental rants. The tests are decent if you read the material, but they are mostly from notes/his lectures. Attendance is a grade and his research paper isn't difficult, although it had to be an environmental topic. Decent teacher, but boring.

Downing was such an amazing professor. He is very clear on what he expects and is a very easy going type of guy. At the end of the semester we had to write a research paper. He didn't require a speech like some.

Dr. Downing is by far the best professor I've ever had. His lectures are funny, insightful, and very helpful. If you pay attention to his lectures and take notes there's no way you will fail. The research paper is due 11 weeks past the first class so you have time to do it. 3 tests, all multiple choice. TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN also uses duolingo

Dr. Downing is exceptionally clear and concise from his lectures to the required coursework (which isn't much). He's witty and humorous, but the course material is boring and incredibly easy, assuming you pay attention. Take him for ENC1102, assuming you do your work, that's one more requirement fulfilled.

Mr. Downing was a funny and sarcastic teacher. He made lectures interesting and not long I really enjoyed the way he taught the class. However, there were only 3 tests and 1 research paper. The tests were very challenging and contradicting. You must get a very good analysis on the short stories and poems he assigns or you will fail.

Professor Downing is a very good English teacher. He uses humor to help teach short stories, poetry and a MLA format research paper. His tests are fair. I would recommend this teacher for any English class at PHCC.

great funny/corny teacher. he's all about class involvement. easy tests and hw if you put in an honest effort. if i remember correctly, comp-I had less use of the book, and fewer papers. comp-II you def cant get buy w/o the books and maybe 3 or 4 papers. Not-so-tough A.

I had Dr. downing for creative writing 1,2, and 3. He's and AMAZING professor, extremly helpful and approachable, hilarious, knows what he's talking about. respect is to be given but he allows for people to relax and express themselves through their work and wants feedback

I took him for ENC1101 & ENC1102 and he is by far the best teacher PHCC offers, for any course. He explains everything to you and is the most understanding best teacher. If you are having a problem with class related stuff, go to him and he will explain it, and he's funny. There are alot of papers, but there easy. If I could take him again I would.

Mr. Downing is awesome! I am taking him again for Eng Comp2. He is very nice and funny as well as extremely helpful. If you pay attention to his lecture you should pass with an A. He doesn't give much extra credit, but you shouldn't need it. There are 4 test and one research paper. It is very short too. Definitely recommend him!

Professor Downing is a great teacher. I really enjoyed his class. He always made a point to let you know he was available if you needed his help. He is willing to help if you are willing to ask. I wasn't thrilled with having to write a 4.5 page paper on an environmental issue, but if you know him you know that is his thing!

Great teacher. Wants students to do well. All of his tests are from the readings and lectures, never any surprises. English is not my thing but I loved his class and would take any class he teaches. LIBERAL LIBERAL LIBERAL! The toughest part of his class was being there during the election.
