Philosophy of Law, AMAZING TEACHER AND PERSON. No quizzes. Tests are short essays. (final is a 5 page essay) you have to buy the packet from the print shop. I would read to help you understand but its not necessary as he explains very well in class - even when you dont read you understand it through his teaching. Downside - does not use D2l

Alright here's the low down on Galvin. He likes to make beer jokes and leaves no sacred ground untouched with his biting and offensive humor. If you want an easy time, look elsewhere. If you want someone to teach you (and have an open mind) he's your man! If you get offended easily, run away! If you can take the heat, I deeply suggest this class.

I had Dr. Galvin for Intro to Philosophy. His lectures are pretty clear-cut and he knows what he's talking about. He has a sense of humor that some may find a bit crude but I enjoyed it and he always made me laugh at least once during lectures. He is a pretty nice guy and can answer pretty much any question you may have

Hardest phil professor of the four in my class. Didn't like him. All he did was yell the things he said and curse. He was very rude and his comments were unnecessary. He doesn't make sense. The class itself is already super hard.

Galvin is an amazing professor. Those who criticize his style do not really understand Philosophy. He cracks jokes to make the concepts he teaches easier to grasp and remember.

This guy will put you too sleep. Grades way too hard on the midterm papers, and thinks its cool to curse as much as he can. Its okay to have a little fun but sometimes he just gets annoying. Don't take Advanced Philosophy of Law, won't do anything except bore the life out of you all semester. I'm an econ major and its also titled Law & Econ. 3 prof

Galvin is a great teacher, but to do well in his class, you have to have the skill of taking good notes straight from the lecture without powerpoint or the board being used. MMM is a very difficult class but he does a great job making sure everyone understands everything.

Galvin does an amazing job of keeping a class captivated. He talks about the ideas he has such obvious zeal for with such enthusiasm it is hard to not get caught up in them. Yes he is sarcastic. Yes he is cynical. But, the rude comments on here do not truly capture the meaning behind what they see as rudeness for the sake of being rude. Brilliant!

Probably one of the most ridiculous classes I've taken. The entire class was always lost; ideas were never fully explained. The TA was more help than the profs; review sessions saved my grade. Profs basically say you won't make an A in the class and that remains true. They assign a philosophy paper and expect it written in a style they never teach.

He's passionate about his stuff, but he often didnt finish his lectures and we were expected to know what we didnt make it to. If you cant take your beliefs being challenged, dont take him, because he will.

One of the more eloquent and intelligent teachers I've had so far. If you are evangelical, it is not recommended that you take his classes, since he will effectively challenge you. If you can't take that, don't take the course. That said, if you enjoy thinking about problems of ethics, his section is the best in the intro class.

Most of the negative comments regarding Galvin come from whiney evangelical Christians who don't know how to challenge their beliefs. Galvin is hilarious and extremely intelligent. Take this class if you're willing to check your dogma at the door, you won't regret it.

Galvin's lectures were full of crude examples and cussing... they were sometimes hilarious and sometimes just plain distracting. I would come out of the class saying "what was the point of that?" and to this day probably couldn't tell you anything about philosophy. However, he is really nice on one-to-one encounters! Overall wouldn't recommend him.

I can see why some people may be ticked off by Galvin, but I had very different beliefs than him and wasn't offended at all! He is SO passionate about what he's teaching, and his lectures are always very interesting. He's very helpful and nice outside of class. I recommend him - if you take him, you'll learn a lot!

intro to philosophy is a horrible class! 3 professors stand and lecture about things; when it comes to the test you have no idea what to do! the term papers were ridiculous, you tons of quizzes and response papers, it is impossible to do well on anything because they expect you to know the exact phrases to put on the paper and if not you get a C

Intro Philosophy was an ok class, but the sessions with Galvin made me want to jump out the window. I personally don't care about his belief system, but the fact that he just spouts obnoxious derogatory comments about anyone who's not a lonely old man who's mother didn't hold him enough. I also don't like when he sits there and stares at you.

I don't know where the negative comments are coming from, but these folks are surely not putting themselves into the material. Galvin is EXTREMELY BRIGHT and remarkably generous with his time. Granted, the material is not easy, but nothing worthwhile is. And he does all he can to make it digestible for his students. A jewel at TCU.

Extremely unprofessional and lazy. I agree with most of his personal beliefs but he is tacky and tactless in his comments during class. He is one of the worst profs I have had at TCU and I am a senior.

If you think you're going to law school, you should definitely check both of the law classes out. Of course Galvin's awesome and so much nicer than he seems. If you're conservative, just keep your head down and everything will be alright. The grade will be tough if you make it tough.
