Loved this class and half wanted to change my major to Philosophy. Prof Hammerud makes sure to provide lots of examples to help grasp nebulous topics. I really enjoyed the puzzles he would give us for extra credit, definitely helped sharpen my critical thinking skills! 1 Midterm, 1 Final Paper(700 words), 4 Homework Papers(1 page double spaced)

Literary mastermind. 3 phd's. Logic. Philosophy. English literature. wow. Disorganized genius. Pick brain, take notes! He wants the best for you. Let his odd brilliance bless your brain game. If you find him hard to follow, tell him. Passion creates pace that may leave some in dust, so remind him, you're behind him, if slowing down is a must!

I personally think he is a great professor. A midterm and a final. Two 5 page essays, 2 MCQ quizzes. No homework at all. Take his class for an easy A. You can turn in your assignments a little late. Gives a lot of extra credit and you can redo your assignments if you don't get a good grade. He sometimes gets a bit disorganized but he's awesome.

He's a great teacher! He's very opinionated and has a strong sense of Philosophy. He opened my eyes to a number of things. He can be all over the place sometimes but other than that he's been pretty good. I would recommend him for phil

People need to give him a chance! He's a great teacher and is very knowledgeable about philosophy and he genuinely cares about what you take away from his class. I think he's a great teacher and very fun when watching him teach! Cool guy!

I don't understand some of the bad reviews! I think Mr. Hammerud is a great teacher. He's very knowledgeable and will open your eyes to other possibilities. He does give you homework but it's nothing that will make you pull your hair out. Sometimes he gives us no homework at all. He's easy going, calm, and very approachable.

Great professor! 4 one pg. essays, 2 four pg. essays, 2 exams (multiple choice & short answer), gives extra credit opportunities, and you can turn in assignments late. Lectures can be difficult to follow at times and reading the philosopher's writings will be tedious. Hammerud will answer your questions, talk to you after class, and explain things

He's one I feel those professors who just talk nonstop about the lectures, and it's kind of hard to keep with his pace. He tends to give random extra credit quizzes, you'll do about 2 essays throughout the quarter, and every exam will have essay questions. Onestly I don't think anyone understands him. The class is always half empty. Boring class.

BORING class, but its worth it! Hammerud is extremely knowledgeable. If you are majoring in philosophy TAKE THIS CLASS. I have never taken a philosophy class prior to Hammerud so some things were difficult to understand; he teaches somewhat fast. Do the extra credit, it isn't difficult. The lectures are boring and monotone but the extra cred is ez

I had Hammerud last quarter. Hammerud was very nice, but sometimes disorganized. He gives you a lot of opportunities for extra credit, such as extra credit essays and extra credit for a notebook of 60 pages worth of notes based on his lectures. He is a respectable teacher, though his lectures are long. Pay attention in class.

I'd like to retract my earlier statement in which I rated the class a 1,1,1. it's actually pretty hard to do well on tests but he gives lots of extra credit; do it all and you'll get an A - A+ . Attendance is "mandatory" but u can sign in and leave.

You must know ALL the content REALLY well if you want to pass the tests. Tests are very hard, very detailed. We read a lot of things (actually the material is amazing, interesting, challenging) and you must know all of it to get an A! If you want to be a lawyer or go into politics, take this class. Boring teacher, but AWESOME materials.

There are not many philosophy courses which really motivate you and drive you to really want to understand how the world works but this course was one of them. He takes the subject seriously and so some might be dissapointed to find that its an actual course which requires you to do all the reading or else you'll get screwed on the tests.

Disorganized yet awesome. Absent minded genius. His brain is always working at a very high and critical level. He is one of the best people you can meet. Help him, help you. Speak up If you have ideas on how he can be more effective at delivering his points. He only wants you to succeed. Figure him out. He is the best.

Hammerud's teaching could use improvement. He is extremely disorganized. He frequently could not recall whether or not he lectured on a subject. There were many days when we would get lectured on the exact same thing we were lectured on the day before. He would be better off making powerpoints of the material so the class can follow his lectures.

I honestly feel like I have learned absolutely nothing by sitting in his class. My life was wasted. He wastes time by repeating redundant information, and tells you to "just practice" when you tell him you don't understand certain concepts. I have literally been bored to sleep in his class. This Easy A is not worth the frustration.

Prof. Hammerud is disorganized. He teaches mostly from the textbook, but has difficulty during lecture moving from one thought to another; he jumps around and often to unrelated topics. He also repeats lectures. Keep on him about HW and essay due dateshe loses track. Back up your homework. There's little in the way of debate or discussion.

You need to be in class to get the handouts that will help with the tests. Do not try to argue your point, even though it's a philosophy class only his opinion is right. If you can avoid this class with this teacher, do it. I wish I would have. You'll see your fellow students either falling asleep or with a look of confusion or irritation.
