Dr. Keller is the man, his class is very interesting and he's absolutely hilarious. His 75 minute lectures always seemed to fly by because of his awesome ability to keep you engaged with what he's discussing. Great guy.

Prof. Keller is probably the best lecturer I've ever had. His TA grades everything (3 essays and a map assignment), so your grade kind of depends on the quality of that TA and how fair he/she is. The TA for our section was incredible, so it wasn't difficult. I learned a lot, and this class really pushed me to critically examine everything I read.

Super interesting class. Attendance was not mandatory for lectures, but I usually felt compelled to go because the content and organization was so good. No tests, just three essays. If you pay attention in lecture do the majority of the readings you won't have much trouble.

He is the best professor I have ever had in my two years at NYU and my 3 at UW. Every lecture changed how I thought about the world. I am forever grateful for being fortunate enough to have him as a teacher. This class is what college is all about. Take any class by him that you can. It was challenging, but in all the right ways.

Papers graded unnecessarily harsh. Made me completely uninterested in global health certificate. Smart guy but he goes off on tangents and often times comes off as anti-America. Discussion section did not help at all.

Lots of readings all provided online. No exams, 3 papers. My TA graded very harshly with no feedback- must be luck. Interesting topics, great lecturer, funny guy. GET HELP WITH YOUR PAPERS BEFORE YOU DO THEM!

Incredibly interesting class and an amazing instructor! The essays are fairly easy, so long as you've paid attention in class and section. While there are a lot of readings, you only need to skim them, although most are interesting so read them if you have time! Great class, easy but incredibly interesting!

This class is probably my favorite class I've ever taken at Madison over the last few years. Prof. Keller is engaging and makes all his lectures interesting. There are three papers and participation which make up your grade. Papers are not difficult as long as you do the readings. Would highly recommend this class to anyone.

Fantastic professor, take this class. Interesting material and compelling lecturer. It's not hard! Had no prior knowledge of the subject, came to class 50% of the time, did 75% of the readings and ended with an A. 15% of class is disc attendance an 10% is a map assignment, guaranteed 100%. Not pretentious at all.

Fantastic lecturer, clear and engaging, in fact I would have preferred he gave all the guest lectures. There are a total of 4 assignments all semester, 3 papers that are not as difficult as others make them seem, and another map assignment that will take an hour. Good notes will help on the papers, don't need to read everything assigned.

His clarity is not the greatest--the lectures don't flow together. The 3 papers (in place of exams) are extremely difficult and I'd way rather take a test. You could definitely do worse than this class, but I think it's pretty annoying.

He is definitely very smart, no question about that, but I think he has a long way to go in improving his teaching skills. He is very hard to follow because he repeats himself over and over. His exams are papers that are very difficult to write and graded really harshly. It's interesting, but be prepared to put in a lot of work and be frustrated.

Pretentious? No way. He's really knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the topics he lectures on. The paper assignments have clear directives and are really quite easy if you've done the reading and taken good notes in class. I've enjoyed this class more than I thought I would because it has been really interesting. I would recommend this class.

Am taking my second course with him. Madness & Medicine. Phenomenal professor. Favorite I've ever had, actually. He is NOT pretentious, he just knows his stuff. His courses are the most interesting I've ever taken. He's funny, brilliant, and you will grow from his courses. I learn SO much in his courses.

Prof. Keller is a good lecturer and this is a good class. As others have said, he is a bit pretentious (says "Fraahnce" instead of "France") and loves to hear himself talk, but he's a fun guy and the readings are pertinent. Grading isn't the easiest but it's very possible to get an A; get guidance from your TA. He makes his personal beliefs clear.

Great Professor. Not the easiest grader, but is willing to work with you. Has a good sense of humor and knows what he is talking about. There is a little more reading but only 3 papers, no exams, grades according to improvement, what else could you ask for?

Guy is really full of himself. Takes a VERY long time to make his point. I suspect he does that in order to hear his voice. If you don't need the credits, don't take his classes. Just get from someone the recommended reading material. But really , the guy is an ass.

Pretentious but sometimes funny. Harsh grader. Would not recommend. One or two people in the class seemed to like him and he liked them back, but the ones I talked with did not like him, were not his favorites, and did not like the class.
