Although his lectures may seem dry and uninteresting at first. Once you pay attention you will realize that there is much to be learnt. His lectures are topic specific but filled with good info! Take notes and you'll be good for the exam and essays.

Comment:

Richard is a very soft spoken and caring person. The course itself although it is a communications course, it very film content based. I would not recommend taking this course without having film background (such as terms and techniques), as i found that it was expected in order to get a good grade on the assignments.

Professor Lippe is a great professor. His lectures and readings are informative and relevant to course content; even if you have never taken a film course or communication course, his lectures and readings will really help comprehend the movies. The requirements of his course are clear cut and he replies to emails quickly with feedback.

Professor Lippe is a kind, soft spoken man, however his lectures were extremely dry and seemed to go on forever. The essays were long and it is difficult to get a good mark in this class. I consistently got B's on each essay in this class, which was frustrating.

I skipped almost all of the classes & still got an A. Assignment breakdown is 15%, 40%, 45% & attendance is not one of them. If you're confident in your writing, you will get a good mark. That being said, he is one of the most dry lecturers I've ever had & he does not use visual aids. Watch a couple movies and read a few chapters & you'll do fine.

Prof Lippe is soo nice & helpful. I have taken two classes with him and have recommended him to many friends. You kind of need to buy the course kit though because he bases the exam and assignments on the stuff in it. He is extremely helpful.

Mr. Lippe is awesome! This is the second class I took with him because he is generally a fair grader and the course is easy and counts for credits if you're in COMN studies. He is really nice and helpful and replies to emails quickly. Highly recommend.

Richard Lippe is a friendly, soft-spoken professor, who treats his students and their opinions as if they matter. He can be a bit of a dry lecturer, but he seems to know this and keeps long diatribes to a minimum. He enjoys his subject matter, and tries to pass that on to his students. He is also a very tough marker, however, so be prepared.

Richard is a nice person & a decent prof. He is kind and soft-spoken, will try to help students if they need it. He knows his stuff, and you NEED to attend and take notes in order to pass the exams and get decent marks on the papers. He is not an easy marker at all, you really have to follow essay outlines to a T.

Had Film History last year. One of the most boring profs I've ever had the misfortune of being taught by. The course was a breeze to get through - easy credit. But bring lots of coffee to the lecture. The only thing worse than listening to Richard is watching the films he chooses for class. On a kind note, he knows his stuff & he seems nice. :)

Ugh...he speaks with the most annoyingly nasal voice. Of course thats minor in comparison to his ramblings about stuff that won't help you with your essays or exams. His choice in movies is equally awful...it's all the same 1950's cold war paranoia crap. A couple of good ones, but most are bad. Avoid this class!!

Terrible. The movie choices are awful. They are boring and generally all the same. Too many old 1940's propoganda films. His lectures are muddled and impossible to understand. I have no idea what the course is about...I haven't learned anything. His essay descriptions are so vague that even his own TAs don't know what we have to write about!

Lippe Film class could be better. He is a nice guy and all but the course has no foundation, no one could really explain what the meaning of the course is? It is just out there, as for Lippe nice guy, good prof... but the course needs some context... IT IS SO BORING.. nothing happens.

Richard is a gentle, soft spoken man. He's approachable and lectures are straight forward. Go to classes and tutorials. They may be dry at points but find something that interests you. The material is exceptionally exciting and Richard thinks so too. A very wise, intelligent man.
