Second half of the semester makes no sense. Has given lower grades because of difference of opinion. Very loud and animated.

The professor was really great. The course made me think about things I had never really thought about before. Oxenberg is great at communicating complicated ideas, and he's a really nice guy, too.

OX is a good guy. First couple of months are annoying cause he just asks you broad questions like "what is good?" Grades very fairly, all you have to do is go to class, take notes and study notes. He refuses to look at your essay in office hours though. Doesn't really make any sense. He is the guy from Princess Bride who tries to poison Wesley.

Comment:
The Ox ended up being a better prof than I thought in the beginning. He loves what he teaches...no doubt about that. However, he may love it too much. He has a very idealist view of the world. He also doesn't let people participate that much, he likes to hear himself talk alot. Granted, his students aren't too engaged...it's philosophy.

Comment:
Oxenberg is extremely repetitive during lectures and fails to tie what he is saying into student interests and understanding. He definitely plays favorites and is condescending and rude to those who do not belong to that group. If you feel comfortable kissing ass, do so.

The class is very interesting if you actually like to discuss philosophy. Oxenberg is very well-spoken which is great to listen to but confusing during note taking. He tries his darndest to make people care, but hey, it is BU. Gets upset when people don't talk, but then cuts everyone off. Grades fair.

His political bias is so evident in his teaching that it is often difficult to listen to him preach, especially in HU202.

An extraordinary teacher! Anyone who disagrees never got to know him. He's extremely intelligent, but never uses overly scholarly jargon to confuse you. Clear and concise, he takes even the most intimidating works and breaks them down so everybody can understand. Be open, and you'll enjoy his class, and his witty sense of humor, immensely.

I didn't like Oxenberg. His discussion is a continuation of lecture and you rarely get to have a good discussion. Instead of helping you on a paper he'll give you his own thesis and tell you to work with that to get a better grade. If you like to discuss books in a timely mannter don't take him

At first I was skeptical, but he turned out to be a really good discussion leader. He's knowledgable about the texts in CC101 and open to listening to what you have to say; you just have to be willing to actually discuss. Has a tendency to go on tangents, though.

I can't believe that someone put a negative comment about his lecturing abilities. His lecture on Aristotle was brilliant, and without a doubt the first lecture all year where kids didnt fall asleep. Kids were raving about his lecture for days.
