He's hot. Makes class more fun to go to. If you think he's cute his son is even hotter. But don't touch him, he's mine.

Wow... prof. packard is awesome, and he teaches in a way for the student to actually understand. His class was at 8 in the morning and every time I went I never went to sleep, thats how great the lecture was. I definitely recommend taking him.

Great lecturer. He goes over the most important topics in class, and goes over them in great detail. I love how when he goes over a concept, he tells a story about it: about its discovery, or an interesting use of the concept in technology. This means he does not lecture on parts of the reading, but he takes questions on them. Also great demos.

the only thing i worried about was the curve and if the gsi would be mean. in the end it didn't make a difference on grades. he was definitely easy on us with the midterm and the final, each three hours long. homework wasn't collected.

One of the best teachers I've had thus far in Berkeley Engineering. He actually KNOWS how to crack jokes and keeps things interesting most of the time. Exams tried to test your knowledge of physics problem-solving techniques rather than be long-winded and tricky. Great Professor! I even submitted some of his quotes =P.

Great lecturer, tries very hard to clarify difficult concepts. good demos done in class. he tends to digress a lot but that just made the class more interesting. midterms aren't very difficult, the second one was actually pretty easy, final wasn't bad since 3 of the problems were taken from the homework. overall, excellent professor

At 8 in the morning, Prof. Packard kept us all awake. He is a hilarious, very engaging professor. One of the best I have had at Cal!! The difference is that he wants us to be good engineers not just learn the info for the exams. Very self-directed class - do all the problems, labs, get a good GSI. The exams are easy, so don't make stupid mistakes.

Packard was an awesome and humorous professor! He explained the material pretty clearly, but not too much in depth. Examples in class somewhat resemble those of the exams, which were very fair and surprisingly easy, but that means the average on tests were pretty high. Doing homework and worksheets in discussions and labs is very helpful.

Lecture was pointless, he says it himself. Read the book and teach yourself. The guy is really nice, though, and writes extremely fair tests, especially for a physics professor. I highly recommend it, it's almost like a self-paced course if you want it to be.

Incredible professor. When he lectures, he tells physics stories and jokes that will keep you awake and interested. He expects you to do the assigned book problems (no Mastering Physics), and if you do, you'll do fine on the exams.

If you take one class at cal, take physics with packard. he's incredible... clear, funny, pretty fair... his tests used to be hard but he's changed the policy. he tells awesome stories that get you interested in physics, rather than just cramming formulas into you... take it and you'll see.

Best Physics professor ive had. Very clear and complete. Tests are very straightforward and often have problems from book either verbatim or with changed values. Keep up with HW!! Seriously...if you are willing to work youll do great. Labs are pointless and were graded by attendance when I took it in SP06. Dont act like a premed in his class.

Fair tests, loves to use homework problems for the all midterms and even the final. If you do the assigned homework problems, you'll do fine in the class. Class is curved so you're competing with other students.

He's one of the nicest and funniest professors at Berkeley. His tests are challenging unless you study a lot and catch up with the material. We got 6 pages of cheat sheet for the final which was very helpful.

Love his sarcasm (esp towards us premeds). The physics he talks about gets interesting when he goes off a tangent. Allows 'cheat' sheets. Gives you 3 hours for each midterm (~5 probs each), which for me usually comes to about two hours to figure out the two or so harder problems. Final had more but easier problems.
