His teaching style is very anxiety-inducing. He picks one student to interrogate and does not allow them to say that they do not know the answer. The entire class is confused as to what isnt going on. He is willing to explain more if someone asks him, but the way he does only adds to the confusion. He is also very arrogant.

He is a very funny teacher and kept us laughing. The only thing that upset me was the grade was based on 3 papers. I participated all the time, but it didn't help out. So if you don't get 3 A's on the 3 papers, you won't get an A in the class.

Besides his mannerisms that may be distracting, he is an overall great professor. He helps you out if you need it, and makes time for you to meet with him no matter what. He grades very hard on papers- very hard. Grammar is an essential part in this class to understand. If you are not good at grammar, don't expect to get anything higher than a B.

You're most likely one of those kids that sit in the class eating food or sleeping because you suck at life and have no ambition. The man knows everything! He always helps. You learn what you put into his classes and all those that **** are the ones that put in nothing.

Dr. Westphal is the kind of teacher who will answer any question. He's always ready to help. He knows so much it makes my head spin. For anyone interested in anything other than the cold sciences, Westphal is the man. He makes students want to learn.

This was one of the best classes I have ever taken. Dr. Westphal's grasp of the materials and critical thought in general, paired with a wonderful expressive style are wonderful. I have never had such a great proofreader and critic before!!
