Comment:
Too old to still be teaching should have been retired long time ago! Just sits there and monologues. MCLA needs younger professors who actually use modern tools like Canvas and are in touch with their students. I would recommend AGAINST taking any of his classes.

Must participate to receive a good grade. Only three exams that are 25% of your grade with participation being the 25%. The homework are the questions at the end of each chapter that he assigns and that is all you talk about during class. His exams are very tough but if you participate a lot he will put more than 25% in for your participation.

He was the vaguest teacher I've had. He claims only things he talked about will be on the test, but there was plenty that he didn't discuss that was on the test. And then he goes "Oh well if you do better on the next test/if you participate more I'll change your percentage in the grade" but it's impossible to do better on his tests. Do not take!!!

He only gives you three tests and they're multiple choice but the tests are confusing and he doesn't offer extra credit. If you don't participate he penalizes for that as well. Good luck getting a good grade in this class, I hated his teaching style of lecturing without writing anything down and going off on tangents.

At times he seemed grumpy, and very quickly his mood would change, and then it would change again. Can be very nice but very nasty at times. Make sure you do your homework because that all you talk about in class

I had 2 of Prof Yanow classes in 1989. If you have an interest in Finance and Investments, you can learn a lot from him. I still remember his real world lessons about investing in Albertsons and Precious Moments.

I took a number of classes with Professor Yanow. He'll prep you more for the real world more than an of the other professors in the Business Dept. He won't hold your hand. My guess is that anyone who gave him a poor rating wasn't performing well, and probably wasn't attending classes. He values attendance. He's challenging, but fair. Good Professor

If you want to actually learn something at MCLA, take a class with Yanow. Yes, if you miss classes and don't review the materials you'll struggle. He wasn't afraid to challenge students in both classes that I took with him, which can be interpreted as being abrasive. However, if you put in the necessary time and effort he'll grade very fairly.

Not helpful to students at all! 3 tests - 6 chapters each- and only 20 Qs. Says he teaches the basics but he doesn't. Says he only quizzes on what we go over in class but that's not true. Doesn't like to be given suggestions in regards to helping students. Uncaring for those failing.
