Comment:

I came into this class hating science, but Rosemary changed the whole game. She is very engaging and her lectures were thorough. I can honestly say I learned something from this class. Her study guides mimic the exam and she offers up to 3% extra credit (it may not seem a lot but it goes a long way). Best natural science req ever!

One of the best teachers i've had so far, made me want to continue classes in Geology. Easily my favorite class i've taken so far, overall amazing professor. Take her if you can

Dr. Capo is a great professor and makes the material accessible to everyone, Geology major or otherwise. Take good notes and pay attention to the lectures and you'll be fine.

Comment:

Dr. Capo is very respected and arguably one of the best professor I have taken at Pitt. There are 3 exams each worth 25% along with the 25% being a recitation grade mixed with quizzes (most take home) and group exercises also she gives 3% of extra credit. The best thing is she is very helpful outside of class which is key for doing good on exams.

She covers a lot of content but in an enjoyable lecture. Exams can be difficult just to the volume of material but a few hours studying beforehand should be good if you go to class regularly. She also offers a TON of extra credit that applies to your final class grade which is nice and can be very helpful.

Keep up with material & it should be an easy A. I waited until the last minute to study because these exams were always the same day as my bio exams. Still, with last minute studying and doing all the extra credit (3%), I ended up with a B+. I would recommend going to class because she points out exam questions, but wouldn't say it's mandatory.

Dr. Capo really knew how to keep the class engaged and she low-key got a standing ovation on the last day for how inspirational and informative her lectures are. She also gives extra credit for geology study outside of class (nothing a person taking this for a gen ed couldn't accomplish). Fair grader. Read and pay attention.

Professor Capos lectures can be rather discombobulated since she is such an expert that she can go all over the place with simple material. However, she cares about her students, gives many extra credit opportunities, and posts study guides that make the exams easy as long as you use them. Easy A as long as you study hard for exams.

I took this course for A&S requirements and it was very easy. I have not taken a science course in years and I was able to cruise through this course for an easy A. Textbook is not necessary and she posts nearly completed power points of each lecture on course web. Recitation is mandatory as there are quizzes and labs, they are only 50 mins long

She's a great, thorough teacher. However, you have to pay attention to the powerpoints as she goes through them super fast. Also doesn't put everything she says in class on the slides so if you miss a class, oh well.

Amazing professor. People generally like to call Geology "Rocks for Jocks" because they expect it to be easy, but you have to have a genuine interest in the class, or you won't do as well as you think. STUDY THE STUDY GUIDES!!! Almost every question on the study guide is in the exam. She's soooo nice and funny too

Her lectures were interesting. 3 tests worth 25% each and recitation worksheets and quizzes worth the last 25%. The tests weren't had if you prepared even a little bit. A ton of extra credit (3%) for easy tasks, like going to the museum.

The lecture part of her class was simple, two midterms and a final. She is very clear with what she wants you to know for the tests and gives great study guides. The lab portion is tough and takes a lot of outside hours to do well. The mineral formulas you need to memorize for the lab takes a lot of time so I would suggest start learning them early

I took this as an elective, and Capo was a great teacher. She made lectures very interesting and tests and quizzes were fair. She was funny, and knew how to make everything easy to understand. I would definitely recommend her to anyone taking Geology

Professor Capo is super sweet and personable, albeit sort of disorganized during lecture. She goes through everything quickly so you have to pay attention. Other than that, read the book, and especially study the study guides. Tests are made directly from the guides. Study hard and you'll get an A.
