Outdated in advertising and usually cranky. Plays favorites. Only way to pass and get on his good side is to do what ever he says no matter how good of a reasoning you have to back your project ideas. Was unnecessarily rude numerous times to classmates, even walked out when one was in the middle of presenting. Learned nothing from him.

As a person, he is really cool and actually cares. You need to work in this class, but if he knows you're a good person he'll help you out. Definitely knows what he's talking about and still relevant in the design scene.

Richard definitely picks favorites from the beginning although he tries to show he hasn't. He also throws curveballs, like telling you to change something one week and asking why you did that during the critique the next. His class is one where you get out what you put in.

STRICT about deadlines/attendance. Gives support to those who want it. VERY insightful/knowledgeable/open-minded, gives thoughful suggestions. Crass and honest, but lively/fun and respectful. Definitely not the best at Columbia, I learned more in one week from Lipinski, Thompson, Jobson or Smith, then a whole semester of Zieb. Works with one-half of the class and ignores the other half. Heared he was good and looked forward to his class but he is only mediocre at best.

Very over rated. Easy grader if you are one of his favorites. I did not learn a damn thing. Total waste of time and money. Very disorganized; had to ask for grade sheets back (twice) because, he did not record them and even then, they were not added correctly.

The best teacher I've had at Columbia. If you aren't serious about your work then don't expect the same results; its only easy if you are willing to give as much as he does. I had this class on a Friday morning and I looked forward to it all week long. Long in depth critiques build skills!
