Rick is a helpful and caring guy. Through the subject matter hes able to teach good leadership skills. Class is very challenging. I would only recommend it if you have the time to focus on it. Come prepared by doing the initial assignments and read syllabus well before the class starts. Be considerate of him and your classmates.

The man is clearly very intelligent. He does not explain the material well, talks through the entire lecture without pausing. When you leave you have no idea what he said. YOU NEED TO BE WELL VERSED IN EXCEL. He is very good about replying to emails. Has a very rude demeanor.

The best class for business analytics.He is by far the most intelligent professor.You have to pay attention and put time into the class.The pay off is worth the money. This is not for the whiners that want an easy "A",this level of schooling is what you paid for.If you talk in class,surf the net,text then you will get lost,you need to be attentive

Avoid this professor. Although he tries to be helpful and sets the class up in groups to facilitate the process, he expects far too much from the students and finds error in everything. (One group in our class got every problem right in a homework assignment, but only got a 2 out of 20 because of formatting "errors")

Make the distinction between the content of the class and the professor. The class material is not easy. This is a Quant class using Excel so if you're not familiar with it you will naturally have a hard time with it. But Professor Hesse is a great person. He is prompt with his feedback and is very fair.

Even though I got an A, this class was total waste of my money and time. I didn't learn anything from this class. If I did not have any excel background, I will not able to pass this class. He is very smart guy, but he has no idea how to teach the class. Dont take this if you don't have excel background. If you are good w/ excel, it's easy A class

This is a difficult class. You should know Excel, Word, and elementary stats. You should have Office '07 or better (or Mac with Parallels) and color printer for best results. Dr. Hesse supplies the "text" for $50. He is super helpful, he responds to email questions and gets to class early just for students. Homework is group based & quizzes weekly.

I would not recommend Dr. Hesse, if you have a choice in the matter I would suggest using a different professor. Dr. Hesse wrote his own textbook that he distributes the first day of class; this text book is obviously written by someone who knows the subject well. He's super responsive. Will answer your emails for help within an hour usually. His models can be useful if you take the time to understand them. He's funny and cares for his students who actually try. Yes, he can sometimes be condescending. The material isn't easy, but do all the HWK, diligently prepare your cheat sheets for tests & you'll be fine

He's all about excel, so if you have trouble with this program you will fall behind. He's really funny and smart and if he thinks you are putting forth your best effort he will help you. Some classes were really long and i haven't applied anything i learned, but he's great on a personal note.

Nice man but terrible professor. He requires you to buy his USB material, has a photo of himself on the syllabus and a quiz question was "What universities have I taught at". I mean really!? Hesse does not care about his students. He does not teach from a textbook. Rather, he makes you pay him $70 for LUMAT-some program he developped (that is riddled with errors). Learned nothing. All Excel. The class drops after the midterm. Take Ko.

If you are a computer programmer or Excel master (of 2003 and 2007), you'll probably be ok. There is no textbook and he moves very quickly between powerpoint, excel workbooks and worksheets, word docs, etc. I did not feel that I could ask questions in class. He was not approachable or personable. Class size dropped from 18 to 9 in 8 weeks.

Do the work and keep up with the practice and quizzes and you'll do fine on the exam. You can ask him questions, but WATCH OUT!! he can be quite demeaning. It's just unprofessional. We all get that it happens in the real world, but you're paying over $5 for a class and sometimes he needs to be reminded to be professional!

Great professor! He has little tolerance for stupid questions, he genuinely cares about his students, and definitely wants you to really think about the work. Don't let the exams stress you out. They are a lot easier than they seem. Def go through the practice tests. You really do need to put in time to get a good grade. Loved this class.

DO NOT TAKE I YOU DO NOT KNOW EXCEL. If you want to learn dont take his class you will learn nothing of value. The people who rate him high are excel people, which means this class was a breeze. If you want to waste your time and money and learn nothing take his course. He needs to retire lectures are Zzzz and of no value.
