He is the worst professor I have ever had. He cannot explain the material and expects students to know everything after hearing it the first time. He also grades more harshly than anyone else I've had. This is a programming class and if the program did not run the first time it was an automatic 0.

If you are a programmer and have previous experience, he is a great prof. If you taking the class to learn programming he is terrible. He makes his quizes, exams and lectures up on the spot. He doesn't provide an optimal learning experience or cares about it, he just likes to hear himself talk about programming.

I worked really hard in the class. For an intro-level class it took too much work. Walker would be a great teacher if you have experience with programming, if not you'll have to put a lot of time into this class. Talks down to students makes it hard to ask questions/ talk to him.

If you keep up with your work this class is pretty easy and will teach you a lot. If you fall behind though you will have little chance at catching up. I enjoyed this class a lot and will definitely take more classes from Walker as the opportunity presents itself.

If you really think you are a GREAT student, he's an awesome professor. But I consider myself just above average student (not GREAT) and I really worked hard and even struggled to get the B (my overall GPA is 3.9 right now) ... so yeah, this class will be hard for average students but if you work hard it will pay off.

One of the very few professors here who teach true computing, in the style of Ken, dmr etc. Pay attention and make some effort. It will pay off for the rest of your life as a computer scientist(scientist not engineer). You might be warned otherwise, but dont worry about it. His principles are very clear, once you get used to his style. Knows a lot.

Best professor in the department. If you work, you'll have very best knowledge. if you don't, you'll fail. Goes with python and very big linux fonder. read the whole text. don't miss assignments. exams aren't so tuff as they appear. (but questions may very tricky. be ware!)

one of the very best professors! If you are willing to learn, he'll teach you. If you are not, you'll fail the class. Lot of work, lot of study. but you'll learn more than ever. (in the exams, watch out for his tricks! so many tricky questions may appear.)

I graduated in '98 with a major in CS. Dr. Walker was my fav professor of all, I took all his classes. Yes, they were hard, but so is the real world! He always explained things with detail, gave interesting assignments, and expected great things. He taught me how to think critically when solving CS problems, better than just memorizing answers.

His "clumsiness" is an act, he does it so, people watching would find it easier to anticipate prog mistakes. If you show interest, hes genuinely delighted and is extremely helpful.Prof grasp on subject is crystal clear, even though it doesn't look like it. Despite what others say, I found him to be extremely patient. Give and you receive plenty.

One of the wrost teachers in this field who has a very bad teaching style and hard to understand. Sometimes he is willing to help but he confuses you more trying to help you. Tests are very hard. He will give you a study guide but its pointless cause nothing on the test is on the study guide. Too many assignments and quizzes and so little time.....

Amazing professor. The best in the department. He will tell you everything you need to know, then expect you to know it after. Study a lot for his tests. They are very hard. Listen in class and you will know everything. I will take every class I can from him.

Pretty tough professor, yet you learn alot. Anybody who complains about Walker is either incompetent or unwilling to do their homework and learn about topics.

He is tough. but what else you can expect from computer science classes. He make you work hard. He will force you to study and quit partying on weekend. But at the end of day, if you play with his rule all semester. you will love him...trust me!!!

Pretty nice guy overall, loves the field and is quite knowledgeable. The issue is he does not have any structure to lecture/class and homework. Expectations are way too high, as if we don't have anything else going on. He'll send you into stuff unprepared sometimes too, very time consuming and frustrating. Brekke needs to regulate the dept. more.

Even though I was in the comp.lab in Bridges more than I was at home that semester, I really liked Dr. Walker. I emailed him ALL the time when I was working through my programs and he always responded within a few hours!! He is always willing to help, even though his tests are EXTREMELY difficult! Write down what he says in class, it helps!
