Awesome professor. Very interesting class and he's very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the material. Also very helpful and a nice guy. The exams are mostly based on the homework, but also covers some of the reading and some of lecture.

One of the nicest guys I've ever met. Grade is based on math-based homework (every week), Midterm, Term Paper, and Final. Average on midterm was exactly 50%. He says he curves at the end of class but has a strange formula. He also curves based on how hard he thinks the class tried, which is odd to me. Generous with Term paper grade, harsh on tests.

He's fairly clear when he teaches and is helpful ... if your having trouble just ask questions ... midterm and final are very close to the practice ones he gives ... lecture notes are online ... make sure to read them before the tests even if you took notes ... they give you most all of the answers for the test

Not a bad professor, but don't take Physics of Weapons thinking that it'll be an interesting class... it's not. It's all about nuclear weapons and radiation and all that stuff, which was not what I signed up for. Half the class dropped it after first quarter, after they got their midterms back.

Some of his demos were funny. He's enthusiastic about the subject, but I was not interested. he goes through a lot of information during lecture. I didn't do the readings and got a B. Homework assignments almost every week and a term paper. The class would've been fun if I liked the topic.

Professor Newman is very nice and shows lots of enthusiasm, yet his class is way too in depth. Some of the weapon concepts you learn about are interesting, but most of the class regards boring topics on nuclear radiation. There is also homework every week, consisting of all math, and a 5 page paper.

He is a pretty good teacher and really is excited about teaching. He is a little unclear though and the class is a little unorganized. You should probably have somewhat of a background in physics. His experiments were awesome and so were the guest speakers.

Most interesting class I've encountered at uci. Newman is a great lecturer, very enthusiastic about the topic. Shows great examples and interesting demonstrations. Tests were not bad. If you have an interest in Nuclear Weapons you should take his class.

Its nice to see a teacher show excitement in their field of study. Professor Newman expresses a love for physics, that makes learning fun, and interesting. His experiments were hilarious, especially the time he almost got hit by the bowling ball.
