With three years of college under my belt, and transferring to a Top 20 school afterwards, I can say this was my most difficult and enjoyed class. The content runs deep, but the professor is remarkable if you get his sense of humor and view of the world.

I dropped the class after the first two weeks. Great prof to work wth if you have any questions; he is very personable. Tests and quizzes are very hard, a lot of reading an memorizing for an 100 level class. To pull an A you must spend a lot of time reading an studying, and memorizng. Tests are essay format, but he grades them tough.

Decent professor though takes a bit getting used too. Definately a harder class for freshmen but as long as you read and use the studyguides you shouldn't have any problems.

Yea his tests are a bit ridiculous, especially for a freshman intro course, but in his defense he does provide study guides a week or 2 in advance. He's actually super funny and talks TO students rather than down to them, and for that he's a great professor.

I don't recomend taking this teacher. He goes off topic often and traps you into hard essay tests where you have to memorize 20 and he will choose two for you to write. I'm a straight A student, and I'm withdrawing from this class. Hes also not clear on what he expects at all.

He is a horrible teacher and grades very hard. He traps you into writing piss poor essays to he can hold them above you and say "Look at me! I'm so much smarter than you with my Ph.D!" Seriously....do not take.

Do not take this class! Allshouse is a good person in general but a bad teacher. The tests are essays and theres only like 3 out of 20 and he grades the essays hard. And he never answers any of your questions. Do not take!

During my, I had five classes with Dr. Allhouse. There is a reason for that. If he occasionally comes off a pompous (and he does) its because he has done and knows so much. He is not concerned with being Pol. Correct, he tells it as he sees it. The rumors about his rumors about his alleged sexism are bogus. Work hard, you do well. It's that easy.

History of the West and World. Good intentions but often gets off-track. I don't recommend taking him if you are actually interesting in history and learning useful information. You can tell he knows a lot from his lectures. I didn't read the book, and hardly studied for the tests and still received favorable grades. No out of class assignments.

Hes a very smart guy and knows what hes talking about but his tests are incredibly hard. If he cut down the amount of essays it would be o.k. but 23 is nuts.

History of England to Elizabeth I. Allshouse is a great professor, definitely knows what he is talking about, his tests are all essay so that throws some people off, I found that I did better that way. Overall a good experience.

Hes a funny guy but he doesnt get the job done. He jumps between centuries on a second by second basis. You basically had to read the book and teach yourself for his class. the test essays were very vague and generalized compared to the answers he was looking for. He would ask about an entire era but grade upon one event that happened. TAKE VOLIKHA

(English history to Elizabeth I) Dr. Allshouse is a great professor - very knowledgeable, funny, understanding, a bit unclear on due dates for projects (but that does not hinder the learning process, nor does it detract from the time you receive to work on said projects). Allshouse is very fair, definitely recommended.

He isnt really that bad of a guy, he just wants you to work hard. The study sheets with the essays and identifications seem difficult at first, but you just have to apply yourself. As for the test, get ready to write. He wants you to be short, sweet, and to the point
