To get a good grade, you need to know the content and be able to tell what its significance is. Dr. B's class is set up so that there is lecture once a week and group discussion once a week so you don't get burnt out. He finds great ways to present uninteresting material in an intriguing manner. He also really cares for his students, not only in their studies but for their personal well-being. I definitely suggests taking one of his classes!

This is not a traditional history course where you memorize facts and take multiple choice tests. This is all writing and analyzing primary sources to find the bigger meaning of the history that he lectures you on everyday. If you have a short attention span this class is not for you because he just talks at you with minimum visuals .

An expert in is field! Grades tough but fair. He expects you to read assigned material. You will learn to write a true research paper. You will work hard to get a good grade. Expect to work hard in upper-division classes. These are not designed for everyone. He eagerly explains questions and concepts. He wants you to do well. Be prepared to work!

I enjoyed this class greatly due to the professor as well as the material covered. He is passionate about the subject as others have stated. However, he does not give out high grades easily. He makes one work for it and is not a class one can skip.

didnt think he was good teacher at all. yah he loves what he does but not really helpful. rambles on and on very fast. Get another teacher he has no powerpoints everything is oral. and has quizzes every friday. not a fan of this teacher avoid taking him keep in mind i am an average student and didnt think he really cared about helping his students

Berkhofer's classes are great! I have had three classes with him and wish I could take more. Be ready to work because he gives lots of notes and has lots of books(don't miss his class and have some background in history), but he will definitely keep you interested. He has a pretty good sense of humor and is always willing to help.

Loved the class! If you have any interest in medieval history, you should take his class. You probably should have some background in medieval history before taking his class. Also, make sure you come to class, he gives lots of notes, but he really knows his stuff. If you need help, he will help you. Don't be afraid of him! He's awesome!

Comment:

He loves what he does, which is always a plus, but I found his class to be pretty hard. The final test was incredibly difficult because 50% of the final was a comprehensive essay and the final is 40% of your grade which means that that essay is 20% of your final grade. Very interesting clas but very difficult.

Comment:

He has a monotone voice that drags on. However, he is very excited about what he teaches, so if you can get past his voice, the lectures are interesting. Every test is an essay, so it is quite a bit of work.
