Bucholz is such a smart man, and his lectures make you love history just as much as he does. He genuinely cares about his students, even when he has 200 of them in one class. He gives you everything you need to know, you just have to take good notes and ask for help if you need it.

Dr. Bucholz was an absolutely incredible professor. His lectures were poetic and beautiful. He is ridiculously knowledgable about history and has such passion for the subject. He has been my favorite professor at Loyola. The class requires some work but as long as you take good notes, you'll be fine. For anyone taking HIST 101, Bucholz is the man

I adore Bucholz. While this probably isn't the easiest HIST 101 at Loyola, it's definitely the best. He is such a caring man and the most passionate professor you'll ever meet. He wore a velvet suit to our final, so he's also a fashion icon. I am a senior and had to take history for core and was salty about it but this ended up being my fave class!

Professor Bucholz is my favorite at Loyola, and so well educated about the topic. You can tell how much passion he has and that he loves to teach. He makes everything easy and interesting to learn, and class actually goes by fast. Make sure you go to lecture, the tests aren't too hard but you need a lot of information.

Bucholz is awesome. It's by no means easy, but his excitement and passion for history is infectious. I was always excited to go to class because his lectures felt like sitting in a movie. He's a really compassionate and understanding guy. All around, a fantastic professor.

I used to HATE history, but Bucholz has made me love the subject. Lectures feel like storytime. You don't really need the textbook, everything is lecture-based. Participation is counted in discussion, but the lectures are super helpful for exams. Gives study guides well in advance. It doesn't feel like a burden to do the work b/c he makes it fun.

Bucholz's class was my favorite at Loyola. His passion for the subject makes it interesting whether you like history or not. Lecture's are optional, he doesn't take attendance, but just saying the only time I missed a lecture is when I physically could not get out of bed because I had the flu. Papers are graded by TA's from your discussion section

Bucholz is the kindest man ever, he really cares about everyone in the class. It was a 300 level class, but this is my most solid A. His lectures are wonderful & easy to follow, with the occasional tangent-but it's fun. His tests are "90 mph but straight down the middle", so study & it'll be fine. go to his office hours just bc he has great stories

AMAZING LECTURES!! tbh one time I started crying in class over the french revolution. he's very passionate and wants students to learn. You will do well if you show up and pay attention to lectures, which is not hard bc he makes his lectures very interesting. There's a midterm, final, and 2 papers. Makes it clear which topics will be on the exams.

Alright bucholz is extremely passionate about his lectures and seems scary at first but is very accessible outside of class and genuinely cares about every student succeeding even though I was in a large lecture class it was easy to ask questions and there was no judgement whatsoever actually study tho because this isn't the easiest class

Buchholz is the greatest professor/teacher I have ever had. He is the smartest human I have ever met and really knows his stuff. Every lecture is very engaging, but he grades on a 100 point scale, so you HAVE to study to get a good grade. Also attending the group sessions with the grad students is very important as well, we went over test details

A bit intimidating at first because he holds his class to an Oxford or Cornell standard. Lectures are very engaging. For the midterm, he gave us 6 options of potential essay questions and then put 3 of them on the test and had us answer 1. If you studied, you got an A. You had the questions prior to the exam!! He loves his job & it shows.

He is a very engaging very passionate professor, but he cares to much about this subject. He treats HIST 102 (a tier 1 history core) as a major class with "oxford standard grading" and only 4 assignments. 2 tests 2 papers. If you are a STEM major I recommend finding another professor that understands the difference between core and major classes.

Attendance is not mandatory, but he does cover everything you need to know for the test during class. He is easy to talk to and has office hours. Fair grader!!

He was probably my favorite teacher for History. He lectures your whole class time and you will never get out early. 100 point scale: midterm 20%, final 20%, 2 papers each are 20% and then you have a discussion section and participation in there is 20% which helps your grade. Not a lot of grades but I would recommend him!!

Only grades on a 100 point scale, but offers lots of insight and plenty of time and opportunity to ensure that you are caught up in the course and that you know what's going on.
