Dr. Butler is a rare bird. He takes particular interest in the goals of his students and spends a great deal of time trying to figure out how to assist them on their path. He is a very good lecturer making boring topics interesting. He enjoys instructor student interaction during the lectures as well. Love his sense of humor.

He's pretty boring at 8 AM. He cancelled class one time 10 minutes into class because no one answered his question. Shows lots of videos, often pointless to attend class. The semester is almost over and our grade consist of a paper and the midterm..

Sir Robert Butler is an esteemed historian at EC. His bow ties suit the man with a perfection rarely found in nature. He is what Philip is to Elizabeth II, Ghandi to India, Yorktown to Cornwallis, Hillary to Bill, Newton to Gravity, Dr. Butler is a friend to all especially the squirrels on campus. In fact you can find squirrels following him

8am class + history video from 70s or 80s 1 trillion pound eyelids. He gives you the exam terms/essays to study at home. Fair grader. Can't go wrong for a gen ed. Some papers/ readings, but pretty light overall.

Senior Thesis: a minimum 40-page paper where you really earn your degree. Meet once a week, and the subject is chosen by the student with his approval. Ended up writing 75 due to overshooting myself. This may sound silly, but you'll soon understand: it's only a 40-page paper. Be specific, don't punish yourself with too broad of a topic. Good luck!

Dr. Butler is my favorite professor at Elmhurst. He's easy-going, relates well with students, really knows his stuff and delivers it clearly and concisely in lectures. I have taken several courses with him and they tend to follow a similar format: midterm, final, and usually 3 papers in between. I highly recommend taking at least one of his courses

Subject matter is very dark, and Butler doesn't sugar coat it, but he makes it really interesting. I learned a lot in this class, and got a few gen eds done. If you like learning about the Holocaust, take this class and you wont be disappointed. His lectures are long, but he lets you out early a lot. No tests until the final. But there are papers.

Great professor! Learning about the Holocaust is very interesting with Dr. Butler as he knows so much about it! Make sure to do a great job on the papers and use outside research as well as the books that you will need. Take him if you have the chance.

By far one of the best professors of my college career. Classes were always interesting, and he is extremely helpful- not only with class, but with opportunities available outside of class (i.e. conferences, grad school, etc). I cannot say enough to stress how amazing Dr. Butler is.

Of all my professors through my college career, Rob Butler is far and away my favorite. Hilarious, caring. Really teaches. Classes are mostly lecture, tend to be several papers and a midterm and final that are easy if you came to class most of the time and took notes. Even if history sin't your thing, you can't be in this class and not be amused.

I've had him for about three classes so far, and he's my adviser... he is awesome! I love his bow ties and his tweed jackets... plus he really loves what he does... He wants his students to do well and will help you with anything you need... Do the assignments and read the material and it's an easy A or B.. depending how well you did on the papers!

I had Rob, Professor Butler back when he was a 'new prof.' I think it was in his first or second class of Great Personalities. We called it, 'The Satan Class.' I'm pretty sure I took all of his classes, though I really wished he'd taught ancient Rome and Greece. I'm sure his just gotten better and he was great then!
