This professor is rude, and will criticize you & your work. Professors are to be inspiring instead of trying to put you down. He is by far the worse person to interact with. He will tell u how disappointing your work Is w/o encouraging u, insult u & say ur somewhat intelligent, & expects u to be a super human at his level. He is disappointing.

The class itself was fun, it was 60s music. Got to listen to music everyday and watch films. It was interesting topics. Only issue is he is a tough grader. Would take him for pass/no pass, he ruined my GPA

TWS was a great class. It's a bit tough to take notes in his class, tbh, because he gives a lot of context and background info about the books. If you are curious about Africa/African lit, I would really recommend hiss class. It's basically a lit class, so of course there's going to be many books to read. But they're all great books.

Probably the most difficult TWS class I've taken. Required to read 7 books. 2 essays, 1 midterm, final. Don't fall behind in reading, otherwise, the midterm is fair. It's actually a class you'd have to put work in, so definitely don't think it's an easy A.

Good teacher, attend all his lectures because it really highlights what he'll use for the midterm and final. By textbooks, it's actually novels that have to be read, each in one week. Interesting class overall though, can be passed if you study and put in the effort and read the novels!

there is no final so after the midterm (which was pretty easy), everyone stopped going to class. i went to his last lecture and i regretted not going to class more often because he is a really nice guy with interesting stories. his voice is just kind of boring. grade depends on TA. compared to the other DOC 3 professors, i would say he is the best

I'd say it's the easiest course out of the whole DOC sequence. Professor Cancel is super friendly. However, he has trouble reading out of the text (kinda does that a lot) but plays songs in class (educational purposes), so it evens out. I'd say he is an okay professor. As long as you take notes and semi-pay attention, you should be fine.

He can't read out loud and knows his stuff but can't teach well. Grade in DOC is TA dependent. I don't know if he is a terrible outliner--his lectures have no structure--or if the class (DOC, how boring) made the lectures have no substance.

Interesting and engaging lectures. I found the books to be great reads and very enjoyable especially after studying science all day long. Not very much work in this class after reading is excluded. (2 papers/midterm/final/map quiz). Assuming you go to class, exams require 10-15 minutes of studying? Good class, chill professor. Recommended

music of the 60s. Sweet class. Lectures could be slightly dry but were still interesting overall. And he would always play songs for us which obviously illustrated the material very well. That shows that he puts a lot of heart into what he teaches. Never went to O.H. but asked some questions over email and he was extremely helpful.

extremely arrogant and condescending. thinks he is the god of literature, and treats students like they are in the third grade. constantly giving us moral lessons on how to be 'good' students. he knows its a GE class, yet he insists on making it miserable. he expects us to read an entire novel per week. yeah right. AVOID HIM and this stupid class.

I like him. Yes, he's terrible at reading aloud, but he is passionate and knowledgeable in the subject. You learn a lot ion the class and while there is a ot of reading, the books are not incredibly long, and they are interesting. I like him because he does try to interest the students on the subject and he is not a hard professor.

Cancel has difficulty following his own train of thought. He is not too helpful if you have questions regarding lecture. He has trouble reading aloud, yet insists on doing so anyway. It is frustrating. The 3 page essays are graded easily, but the in class exam seems extremely difficult. Try to avoid him if you can.
