This class was a really easy but boring if I am being honest. I would look around the class and see people on their phones, on Netflix, and even straight out sleeping. He checks for attendance. He wrote the book so don't try shortcuts. The grade is made up of the midterm and final. He gives you what questions might show up so it's an easy pass.

Class was super boring. You dont really need to show up in the class though. He just reads in his monotonous voice. On test he doesnt really care about the content, he cares more about how you structure your essay.

The 411 class I took was held every Monday and was usually based on lectures assisted by PowerPoint. Professor Cleve is very passionate about the Romans and has many deep insights into the subject matter. The class has only three assignments including a midterm and final plus a term paper. The grading is fair, I highly recommend this class,

There's 1 midterm (40%) and 1 final (60%). You only have 3 free passes for class without loosing points. All the lectures are online. He gives a study guide with 10 essay question, 2 randomly selected. Same for final except there's 13 questions, 3 will be randomly selected. You don't have to pay attention in class just really study for the exams.

If you aren't good with keeping up with reading then this class might be a challenge. His final is just essays, and he'll give you 10 questions that may or may not be on it and basically you'll have to write an essay for each question as practice before the final. That means you'll have to read everything to be prepared. So def keep up with reading

Professor Cleve is very passionate about history and speaks his mind on the matter. He lectures heavy and sometimes it can be boring, but if you show up and do minimal studying for the midterm and final then you should be able to pass. He gives readings, but you can pass with a C and not read.

He's a great professor, probably one of the few at CSUN who unabashedly says what he thinks. Lectures are polar opposites. One week might be dreadfully boring, and the next you'll wonder what happened to the time. He gives midterm/final questions beforehand, so just study well and you'll do fine. One 10 page paper, one midterm, one final.

lectures are boring but its a very easy class. Attendance is mandatory and he never assigns homework besides reading (which i never did). There is only a midterm and a final so make sure you do well or else you wont pass. Lets you use your laptops in class.

You will read about 50 pages before each class. I took him for Spring 2014 Hist 303, West Civ. before 1500. Before the class I wasn't particularly interested in that period of history, but Prof. Cleve made it interesting. His personal photos are cool and he really drives many things home, usually coughing at what to pay attention to. Great humor!

Dr. Cleve is an excellent History professor at CSUN, he gives you facts and explains how History is studied. Lectures are long in you take the three hour class, but material is presented well. He know material, although he used cue cards. He is helpful, he is truly inspirational and made me realize how wonderful Roman history is.

Really nice guy, I always felt bad because almost no one showed up to his class, I was there for every class and I don't think it helped me in the long run. Just study the study questions he gives you for the midterm and the final and you'll be fine.

Easy but boring class. Doesn't take attendance so don't have to come to lectures as everything he talks about in class is in the text. Grade consists of midterm, final and a paper. Tests are essays questions which he gives a few weeks in advance. Do the study guide and you should be golden. Pretty easy grader as well.

Prof. Cleve is very open and fun to talk to. His class can be boring only because it is so big. He is very happy to have office hours with students who need it. I would go and talk with him after every wednesday class. He is easygoing and has a great sense of humor. I recommend his class if you want to learn without any fuss.

Professor Cleve is a passionate professor and knows his material well. He wrote the book for the course, just show up to class and take notes. Read the book and you should do well. Class composed of a 6 to 8 page Paper, Midterm, and Final. Both are essay format, and he gives you the questions before the exam. Overall a great professor at CSUN.
