Comment:

One of the best, if not, the best professors I've ever had. Class is easy and report feels easier than it is b/c it is separated in installments. Gives a lot of feedback if you ask for it and has of tons of extra credit opportunities. We played taiko drums, african drumming, square danced and a lot more.

Pretty easy class. Alviso is nice. Few tests (are sort of hard) but they are online. His whole class is consumed by one research paper that you write throughout the semester. His final is: either you do a service learning experience with a group or take a regular final. Requires you to attend concerts, I didn't do them and got a B as my grade.

HATE THIS TEACHER AND CLASS. He does NOT teach what you are going to be tested on. Does NOT teach what was described for the class. All he cares about is a thesis that you have to write to his standards. And his standards are VERY strict. Stay away from this teacher and class at all costs. I regret ever picking this class. It is NOT as described.

The trick for this class is to finish your research paper as early as possible. You will get a lot of extra points. Forces you to use a unique formatting style you will never use in the future, but suck it up. This can be a blow off course if you play right. All the answers for the exams are on his terrible youtube videos and word documents.

He's great!! Tests are short and easy, four homework assignments that you can answer strait from your notes so it's not necessary to buy the textbook. He offers A LOT of extra credit. Theres One research paper due and if you do well on it and turn it in early you can pretty much pass the class on those points alone. Class is good for 2 GE sections.

this class is not hard. if anyone says that it is, then they did not study. coppy his notes and when he goes over a music example copy everything he says about is. the tests and quizes will be the same as the notes, so study that. Great teacher, great class

I took the African Music Ensemble. It was a lot of fun, and Professor Alviso will help you enjoy playing the Marimbas and other musical instruments. I have not had him as an academic professor. But, I would recommend African Music Ensemble to any music majors.

He hates his job. Makes students do it for him via presentations. Didn't show up outside of class time for appointments. Started the class with an excuse that he's teaching so many others. Didn't stick with guidlines or instructions set forth by not giving credit when due.

I love this class! At first, I was just taking cause I have to have ensemble unit but I enjoyed taking this class and I want to take it again. I really like the teacher also. Sometimes, he doesn't take attendance but most time he does. He usually take it 10min after class starts or in the end of the class.

He is a good teacher. Makes classical music and world music somewhat interesting. He also has the class do activites like african dancing. The class is really easy and the grading is basically 1/3 homework 1/3 midterm and 1/3 final. Btw you actually have to go to live concerts. He's fun though, I really do reccomend him. Take him if u can.

He's an OK teacher. I came into this class expecting an easy A so if you're like me and think music is easy? Think again. You are going to need to study to pass this class. I barely got out of class with a C. He seems like an okay guy but the class was just boring in general. Not an easy class at all but hes a decent professor.

Not a bad choice if you like music. He lets a video teach class for about 1/3 of it, and if you don't really care that much, you can just take a nap during that time. Reading is supposed to be required but you can get by without it. He's a little picky about the research paper, but if you participate in class he grades rather generously.
