Like everyone says, Rob is great. He's clearly passionate both about the subject and teaching it. He's considerate and makes you feel good about yourself by taking your points seriously. Please participate, otherwise he looks so sad.

Gets very excited when someone participates. (Please participate, otherwise he looks sadlapses into long awkward silences.) Assigns tons of reading but always tells you what you absolutely need to read for next class, which usually isn't much. Make sure you use primary sources on essays- he hates quotes from the textbook.

He's a very nice guy with a big passion for his subject. Classes can drag at times and it would probably be best to take fact-heavy courses with him. His "Interpreting History" type courses can get repetitive and not be full of enough content. He's super bright and very sweet.

this guy is super smart and nice, and especially great for tutorials. unfortunately teaches classes that are too big(25 students and up) and with too much reading (noone ever reads all of the assigned stuff) to have any interesting, well structured discussion going on. ask him to recommend you some books and read them on your own, or get a tutorial

A fantastic professor. Imperial Chinese History was one of the best classes I have ever taken and Rob is wonderful. Very helpful, very funny, and extremely knowledgeable!

I had Rob for quite a few classes and he was one of my senior project advisors. Rob is a really sharp guy and knows alot about the things that he has studied and can be very useful if you are working material that he has background with. I actually liked the Tom McGrath better than him while Tom was filling in for Rob because he was more engaging, however, Rob is a rad teacher and I am glad that I had the chance to learn something from him.

Very intelligent and knowledgeable. Assings a LOT of reading for a 200 class. Lectures are sometimes unclear, but he compensates by being excellent at drawing good discussion out of the students.
