Comment:
He was very disengaged. Very boring and didn't really teach rather, he read from the slides. Lectures were tiresome and half the time you'll be doing something else. I doubt if gaining his approval would help you, he seems incapable of showing emotion of any sort. He usually has a straight face on.

Very unclear & sarcastic. Can be helpful if you ask him questions during recitation and outside of class time. Got a B+ with no coding experience by religiously reading lecture notes the CS departments puts up every week, and reading through the source code to figure out what the assignment is asking for.

The general consensus is that nobody likes Duncan. I was, however, fine with him. He is a LECTURER which means he LECTURES. Some don't seem to realize this. He embodies the stereotype you think of when you here the term lecturer. That being said, he grades tests fairly and offers extra credit. If you go in blind, you'll need to use outside material

Possibly the worst professor I have ever. Terrible, terrible, lecturer. He knows his stuff but is not able to teach it. He does not seem to care about anything. I asked him twice when his office hours were and he replied "I don't know". Tends to mumble making it hard to understand. Uses materials from other professors. Makes his SLIs do his grading

He was a boing lecturer, but he knew is and made jokes about it and added a little bit to the lectures, but thats not where Duncan is at his best. If you go to meet with him one on one he is much more helpful and if he see's you working hard he will be very understanding and help you out as much as possible.

If you have him: SWITCH!!! Widely regarded as the worst professor in the CS department. His lectures consist of him literally just reading the notes on MyCourses. The only things I remember from his class are that "you use only 50% of the code you write," that he has a farm, and the clients are the worst thing ever. 25% of why I'm not a CS major.

If you already know the vast majority of the material, it will be the easiest class ever. If you are actually trying to learn something, I highly recommend looking elsewhere. Lectures are very dry and boring (he is very aware of this and jokes about it). Does not prepare any of his own coursework. Generally an easy grader.

In classes Duncan is incredibly boring and will put you to sleep immediately. All he does is read off a slideshow ripped off from another professor. The same goes with assignments, which he also steals from other professors. He is only helpful with one on ones. Tests are difficult, assignments are ok. You will never know what your grades are.

Comment:
Gives assignments with unclear directions, often conflicting with specific requirements mentioned in class. Grading takes forever. Often does not open "try" for submission until the night before assignments are due. This means you've got to wait until the night before to see if your programs are accepted, and run as expected with his tests.

Puts you to sleep, just reads a PowerPoint. Assumes you know everything. Doesn't care about the class - you don't know what your grade is in the class because he doesn't grade things timely. Labs and projects are super difficult. AVOID.

Responds to emails 20% of the time. Course load is in an older 5 credit version of the course, resulting in more work than expected. Extremely boring lecturer, vague requirements on coding assignments, and offers no helpoffice hoursmake-ups. Insists on the use of old technologies like CVS and VIM for his class, and scoffs at others. Stay away.

Hands down the worst professor to have for Computer Science. If you have NO experience in programming prior to taking CS1, you will have a very hard time learning ANYTHING. He has a voice that put my insomniac friend to sleep. Will assume you know the material and will not cover the basics in order for you to completely understand the lab and hw.

Just awful. His exams never reflect the material taught in class. It's like he takes other professors exams and then doesn't teach the material you'd need to know the answers.
