Misunderstood requirements for a paper and got an F. Went to his office to see how I could compensate and he told me he doesn't offer paper rewrites and my only option for extra credit was to donate blood, which doesn't educate me about his course, and limits extra credit to people healthy enough to donate. What a joke.

Dr. Reising may give extensive discussion and good notes, but his paper grading is ridiculous and is half of the total grade. the two papers he graded for me had the criticism of "good content, and well supported thesis, but it wasn't what I was looking for" and graded a C-. Luckily the midterm and final brought my grade up to a B.

I have taken several classes with Russ. He is absolutely brilliant. He is a talented instructor who is engaging and interesting. The grading system is straight-forward, and he's clear in his expectations. He is one of the hardest essay-graders I have encountered, and I mean that as a compliment. He will challenge you and improve your writing.

horrible at relaying what he wants in a paper. Hard grader. Hit every point we talked about in class on the final and still failed. if you ask for help he will help, kind of. if there is another option take, DON"T TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!

I think the reason why most people think he's arrogant is because "his opinion is the only right one"... I took his writing class and yes he did frequently tell people that he was right and they were wrong but that's because HE WAS RIGHT. A lot of these kids didn't know what a subject was and he still tried to help which is admirable

Pompous, self-centered, and NOT open to opposing viewpoints. If you like to analyze poetry at all-DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF. "WRONG!" "STUPID!"-- Likes to verbally abuse his students under the guise of motivational "teaching." Stroke his ego, agree with everything he says, write moderately well= A. Plays favorites constantly! Avoid this prof!!!

He's a smart guy, I'll give you that. But he does NOT make it clear what he's looking for in a paper. Failed the "optional midterm" and then when asked if I could drop the "optional midterm" due to a FAIL, I couldn't. Make sense? No. Barely passed the class. He told personal stories often and got off track. Won't take another class with him.

Grades hard despite not giving ANY structure or clarification for expectations in writing assignments. This was an online class, feedback was not timely if given at all and most of my classmates were equally frustrated. I DO NOT RECOMMEND! He does not TEACH though he thinks he is a fantastic prof. Not so much.

Thinks he is an amazing professor but really isn't. Claims he won't be biased, but he is. Picks favorites. If you manage to make his favorites list, you won't have a problem. Otherwise, avoid him at all costs. He is an incredibly difficult grader and disagrees with the conventional paper set up but doesn't explain what he wants. Never again.

Dr. Reising is challenging, interesting, and probably best for lit majors. Overall, the best paper grader I've had. He didn't just give me an A, he also showed me my flaws and took the time to teach me how to rewrite my sentences, so they read better. Be forewarned, he doesn't "give" A's; you earn them. I recommend going to his office hours.

EXELENT PROF! My favorite at UT! I'm a geo major, eng is not a fave of mine, but his class was excelent! Very pompus, I loved it! Gives his opinions, but respects yours. Was in a class of 80+, saw him 1 year later at Krogers, still remembered me. Impressive. Follow him after class, ask questions! His best lecture is on his walk to his next class.
