Professor Fatton is an amazing lecturer. His class was really informative and was not too difficult as long as you do the readings and really work on the paper.

The material in this class is very interesting, but the lectures were so boring. He just talks, he doesn't use a power-point or any kind of visual so it was easy to lose focus. He assigns lots of readings, but I only did like half and still got a B. You have to come to class though. Grading depends on your TA. Mine personally was insanely hard.

The readings and discussion aspect of this class will be the make or break your grade A passionate teacher with very interesting material and insight, Prof Fatton's lectures can sometimes be unnecessary or just simpler reiterations of the weeks readings. That being said every other lecture is insightful and fun. Good teacher, funny dude.

Great class, great lecturer. Professor Fatton is Haitian born and can bring a personal perspective to global development and life under a dictatorship. He also brings intelligent academic study of the politics of development.

Professor is awesome and knows his stuff but sometimes his accent is incomprehensible. He needs to use a mic. 2 exams: 50-minutes. 1 10-pg paper. I learned a lot. Just focus on Easterly and Sachs.

Very interesting class. He's a great lecturer and it's easy to take notes on. There is a lot of reading but not all of it is necessary. I learned a lot but it's definitely not an easy A. You need to know what you're talking about for the exams and paper.

This class is a great combo of case studies and theory. Don't let Fatton's even-toned voice scare you on the first day. He's a very compelling lecturer. The course is very interesting, and isn't difficult. Make sure to shop around for a good TA during the first weeks, though. Some are terrible.

Great class, especially the first half. Towards the end, too much reading that was technical and dry. learned a lot, but very tricky midterm-ouch, and very generalized final-easy. 10pg paper on anything you want. quite an easy A and a superb history/roots/explanation of world's poverty trap. take it if you care about more than your own backyard.

Lectures not really illuminating; broad generalizations without using specific examples. Grading is pretty easy, but if you take the class in the fall, be prepared to turn in a 10 pg paper the day you get back from Thanksgiving Break. Decent amount of reading, but you are never tested on it and everybody eventually stopped doing it.

Fatton knows his stuff and he's a really nice guy. He sometimes drones on and on, and lectures feel worthless. Readings often feel irrelevant. Walked away from this class feeling like I had learned very little.

Professor Fatton is a great lecturer. He's very knowledgeable about the subject matter (imperialism and globalization). I highly recommend taking this professor. Plus, he's funny; and as you all know, at U.Va. we can always use a good laugh!

GREAT CLASS!! I learned so much about developing countries... it truly changes your opinion about the world. You don't have to do the reading, but if you want to do well, I suggest you do it... 2 tests (essay-based) and 1 10-page paper... manageable!

Fun class... lectures (unless he's taking attendance now) are optional but interesting to go to. Your experience will be heavily based on who is your TA. He comes off a bit arrogant at times, but he's not tragically flawed. Hint Hint: Try to pick up his political ideologies and where he stands on the topic. Helps a lot on exams and papers.

Great class. Intersting readings for the most part. Very interesting about the world outside US and Europe. If you live in a bubble and think that everything in the planet will be fine is going to be fine w/o doing anything or knowing about it. You're in for a treat. Prepare yourself for the future, take this class.
