Do NOT miss a class ever, for ANY reason (even if you just go to class, and just study instead of paying attention... sit in the back or something) because he FLIPS OUT. He's a bit TOO into the class, but hey, at least he's interested. The online crap was really hard, but he doesn't mark it very hard. Just be very self motivated, and you'll do well

He gets a bit nuts about talking in class or attendance, but if you show up all the time, he's really into his subject. His tests are a bit hard, but the assignments make up for it and boost the mark, so it all works out

Easy A if you read the textbook and read his lecture notes. Don't really need to attend some of the lectures if some of the topics are pretty keen to you. Assignments are worth 30%, and are marked very easy. Exams are long and cumulative, and will test in stuff not taught in lecture notes.

I don't know what people are saying about him hating students, obviously that person had their cellphone on and talking during class. As long as you pay attention and go to class, it's an easy A. Just turn your cell off and shut up and you'll do fine. His notes are good, with diff things than the txtbook. take down his explanations, they help lots

Rob Goldstein rules. He is the nicest guy and he truly cares about what he teaches. The subject is NOT boring... in fact it is EXTREMELY and INCREASINGLY relevant in the business world today. If it wasn't an introductory course it would be even more interesting. Props to Goldstein, it's nice to see someone who truly cares about education.

Okay guys, he is not that bad as others make him out to be. Yes, his lectures are a bit tedious but its an easy course if you pay attention to this lectures and readings. becoz the exams are based on them--there are no tricks. he tries his best to be entertaining and he cant help but be irrirated if he's disrespected. its an easy A if u try.

Wow this guy goes out of his way to make the course difficult to do well in. He genuinely loves the course, but appears to hate the students. I wish I was joking. He needs the class to be run a certain way, and anything that deviates from it seemingly warrants some kind of punishment or consequence.

The course was boring. The material was boring but Goldstein was not that bad. He seems pretty unfriendly but he is a fairly easy marker and his exams are not too difficult.

Goldstein teaches fairly dry material but he's not that bad of a prof... the way he does his lecture can be boring because the material is boring.. but he tries his best to make it intresting.. tests students on stuff he never taught ( Access and make a website on your own ) Assignments marked easy, exam was marked hard.

Required course and the only prof for all sections. Rambling here is somewhat futile. Course useless and irrelevant to business. 99% of the time don't know why and what we're studying. Markers apparently are dumber than the avg Joe. Can give you neg or bonus marks w/o making it clear on assgt & exam

Worst teacher I have had at UBC so far, extremely unhelpful and boring. But he is the only prof so you are stuck with him so don't talk in class and remember your name card!

Dry course material. He put in a lot of effort, but even a great prof would have trouble making databases sound interesting. TESTS ARE MARKED EXTREMELY HARD! *Perhaps all of you leaving entirely negative comments should learn to spell properly first. Could be you're the dumb*sses and not Goldstein.

Crummy proff, a ACADEMIC TEXTBOOK THUMPING proff. If you want to give the right answer instead of the one in the text this isnt the proff for you. His course content resembles that of someone lost in acadamia instead of being grounded in the real world.

@First i thought he was a bit slow, but then i found out he went to MIT and harvard so no i have some more respect for the guy. Would be better if he shared experiences rather than draggin on by reading his notes off the projector.Don't go to class.

puts a lot of effort into making his lectures interesting, but it doesn't always turn out; notes could use a bit of improvement; very helpful during office hours; don't talk in his class tho, he hates that..sleep is permitted tho (i was in front row btw)

The assignments are easy, but the tests are marked really hard. Quick temper when it comes to people talking while he is talking. The course material itself is really dry and he does not do anything to help make it interesting.

Being fair,I'd say his lectures are okay, he puts lots of efforts in them and they are not that bad, pretty eye-openning. However, this is a hard course, and it requires tons of readings. He is quite helpful during his office hours though.
