Koehl is The Best archaeologist on staff. If you can, Take Him. He will push you, but it will never be boring. His lectures are gripping, work load is normal, but his expectations for the quality of that work are high. He will teach you a great amount about writing for archaeological papers. Take advantage of such a brilliant archaeologist!

Every class felt like only 10 minutes went by. He talks super fast, but the material and his presentation of it is captivating to say the least. His stream of consciousness lecture style is overwhelming at first, but once you get used to it...it's comprehensive and at some points, very entertaining!

Perfection. I was so intimidated by him the first few classes, but I quickly realized that he's brilliant. There is a lot of material to digest, but he's a clear lecturer and a fair grader. I'm going to be taking at least one class with him every semester!

I really struggled with this course. Tests are based entirely on class notes, so you can't turn to the texts to confirm or reinforce what you've written down. Have fun searching for the objects you learn about in class in 3 different textbooks (slide i.d. on tests = the only purpose of the books). I wish this course had been better organized

This is my 3rd class with Koehl and I don't get tired of him! There was one 5-page paper, a midterm, and a final. Make every lecture possible, because he will only test you on artifacts that he shows in class AND that are also depicted in the textbook(s). Not only is the subject matter interesting, but he's a great lecturer. Highly recommended!

there are a lot of notes to take in class but as long as you take good notes or record him, the class is not that bad. it's cool that hes actually been to some of the sites and worked there. hes a great professor and person. got an A and studied just 2 days before midterm & final. an easy A if you can memorize

He's a great professor. There's a lot of stuff to remember but if you make index cards and study like 2 days in advance, it's not that bad. There were 4 papers but they were easy b/c u just go to museum, pick a piece and write about it. Midterm and final. Take lots of good notes and itll be a lot easier. I just used the txbk for the pictures.

Knows his stuff, but there?s too much material to cover. We didn?t get to Rome. Talks non-stop and it?s all important. Take good notes. Save the questions for after class or you'll throw him off track. My only complaint is that the final and mid-term are too heavily weighted (35% of final grade each). I got an A, but I worked for it.

Excellent prof.! had him for 4 semesters, he knows his stuff and is always willing to talk and gossip. has occasional mood swings, but they are hilarious! teaches and grades the same way in every class. papers, midterm, and final. slacks off in keeping office hours, but keep hounding him. take lots of notes, and do the readings.

Aegean archaeology is a wonderful class! He is so helpful and very kind. He makes everything sound interesting and there is never a boring topic with him, he really knows how to grab your attention. There is a midterm, paper, and a final, that's it! He takes attendance everyday so dont intend to be lazy. Prof. Koehl rocks!

He is a wonderful professor. All you have to do is show up for class and take notes and you can manage to get a B with little studying. The textbook is only really needed for looking at pictures that occur on tests and really isn't necessary to buy, unless you don't go to class.
