Comment:
I never rate. I'm usually the one reading the ratings, not writing them, but Professor Kusch is brilliant. I am so glad that I took his classes and I would take more if I could. Not only is he intelligent, passionate, and funny but he's also very understanding. Imo, he's one of those few profs that'll always have a special place in your heart.

Kusch is definitely a professor to take. It's worth the Friday class. The assignments may seem hard, but he always is there for questions and isn't a hard grader. Very old school!!!!

The class itself is easy. There is only 4 papers, but sometimes the papers can be an abstract. There are no tests, which is great. Kusch always helps you if you need help with the papers and isn't a difficult grader.

For those who want no attendance policy- take this class. But for those interested in poetry or even not, let me tell you, I often found myself taking notes just to remember his brilliance. He's a thoughtful, intelligent older man who can grab your attention. The moment his voice starts, you are glued. I mean it, take his class. 1 paper, 1 mditerm

Great class, makes most poems interesting and promotes discussion. Attendance not mandatory, but it he gives most of the information about the papers in the class. NO EXAM, 4-5 papers. Grades fairly, easier than normal. Would definitely recommend to anyone who has to take this class.

He's great. Incredibly sharp for a man of his late seventies. Take him before he retires. Very clear and gives great explanations of the works. Enables you to write great papers. I'm a College Ave resident who made the trip out to Livingston to take this class based on his ratemyprof ratings, and I don't regret it one bit. Professor Kusch rules!

Without taking attendance, Prof. Kusch can look forward to a full class. He is thoughtful, caring, perceptive, assertive, and makes the most out of every minute of your time. He varies class discussion between taking comments, explaining his personal observations, and telling stories. He makes whatever he talks about interesting. Quintessential.

Tremendously fair and amiable. He has a grandfatherly way of teaching, using stories to hook your interest and to give a refreshing context to what he teaches. He wrote me a recommendation letter without hesitation. 219 is one of the most rewarding classes I have taken at Rutgers.

This is a critical writing course where you interpret poems and write 4 papers on them. For me, this course was difficult and time consuming but at least he was lenient on turn in dates and grades fairly. If you like to think and write, I recommend you take him. I got a B+ for the semester.

Very helpful. Will talk after class, before class or set up meetings. He loves poetry and loves to hear imput from students. There is a midterm, paper, and final. Make sure you know the poems' main point. Be able to talk about each poem in depth. The "textbook" is a $12 poetry packet. Very good class. I recommend it.

He has an interesting teaching style and is one of the few I have actually head tell a student their view was invalid. He digresses into stories of his experience quite a bit but they usually have some bearing on the content. I did not like his style but I got a lot out of his class and would consider taking another with him for that reason.

2nd class with him. Highly recommend Intro to Poetry and 219 with him. Easy going, easy to understand, fair grader, and very nice teacher/person. No exams, 4 papers for 219. Just come to class and listen well- that's all!I'd def. take him again if he taught more at Rutgers.

where shall i begin. i liked poetry before i took the class, but now i can analyze and understand what i'm reading. he teaches wonderfully and at a slow pace, cherishing the beauty of each poem. you can participate in class discussion or relax and listen to a master at work. i must highly reccomend this professor.
